Dore's Ovarian Cancer treatment fund
Although currently employed, she will have exhausted her paid time off at the end of April. After that, She will not be receiving any income. Some may know the name Van Williams from his accomplishments as the drummer for metal bands Nevermore, Ashes of Ares and Ghost Ship Octavius. Van is in the music industry and freelances as a graphic designer, however pay is sporadic and now with helping Dore with her recovery, touring and performance opportunities will be extremely limited. Going through this treatment will be quite expensive. First there is a high deductible on the medical plan and the increased expenses for travel, but also the cost of her insurance premiums after May 1. These items, coming together with their normal monthly expenses, spell out great financial difficulties for them.
Here are some things you should know about Dore. Dore lives in the Hudson Valley, NY with her husband and best friend Van and their handsome seven year old son Killian. Van and Dore have been together for 26 years. She grew up in the Hudson Valley (maiden name is Rhoades) and attended both Newburgh and New Paltz Schools. She and her husband moved to Seattle Washington in 1993 and moved back to NY to raise their son around family 4 years ago. Dore has spent the last 15 years helping others either as an HR professional or as an insurance broker. She is accustomed to helping people navigate through difficult times such as these, however no one is ever truly prepared to handle it themselves.
Please help us support Dore and her family. She is a caring person loved by all of those that know her. This entire event unfolded over a single week and there was no time to prepare for the trying times that are ahead of them. The amount we chose above is just a number, because we don't really know how much will be enough, so anything you can do is wonderful and amazing, and appreciated. Please spread the word and help us help her in this difficult time. Thank you for your donation, prayers, and words of encouragement.
This fund was created by William Rhoades Jr., Dore's brother and family. William is somewhat new to facebook so we felt it best to have Van's facebook page as the primary. Thank you all and please donate if you can.
I received some news yesterday from my oncologist...
My ctscan from a couple days ago showed NO signs of visible cancer!! I will have to continue medication for the rest of my life to help the brca1 mutation as well as ctscan and blood tests. But this is the Best news I have had in the last 2 years after being diagnosed. Thank you all for your continued prayers, good vibes, donations and support. I will continue to update.
Much love to you all!
I have had a pretty good run with my ongoing treatment. It has kept the small spots of cancer left in my abdomen at bay and no new activity. I went to the oncologist Monday for my normal treatment and found out that the medicine that is helping with the cancer may be messing with my kidneys. If this is true then i may need to stop the medicine which in turn may lead to the cancer growing back. Needless to say i am scared shitless and have been a wreck. If you know me you know that I try and stay positive and the glass is always half full, but fucking aye these past couple of days have been rough. Please hug your loved ones and tell them you love them everyday. Don't let small shitty arguments get in the way of the bigger picture. We never know what tomorrow has in store. I will post again soon when I get official word of what is going on.
Much love to you all
Hello Everyone! Happy Spring! i hope you and your loved ones are well. I haven't been on in a while so I thought I would say hello and give you guys an update. i have had some ups and downs these last couple months. the ups? i spoke my son this morning and told him that i'm sorry he has a mom that can't do the things that "normal" moms do. he told me he doesn't care. i'm perfect how I am, but he would take this shitty disease away if he could. i love this kid. I'm still here and for the most part feeling ok. my hair is getting in my eyes (I forgot how annoying that can be). i went on my first vacation since being diagnosed. i was able to join my husband and his band as they played on the 70,000 tons of metal cruise (thank you Ghost Ship Octavius and 70,000 tons!). I saw a bunch of old friends, met new ones and met a couple of you that have donated. it made my heart happy to meet you (I was tearing up a bunch).
the bad? i lost my dog of 20 years. he was old I know but he was a badass and quite the personality. I also lost a dear friend to cancer... Adam Sagan the drummer of bands witherfall and into eternity. I miss his encouraging messages and humor.
so my medical update is good. i still have 2 very small spots in my abdomen but the infusion i get every 2 weeks is slowly killing it and keeping it at bay. it's not chemo and i will be on it for the rest of my life (or as long as it works). I have included a pic from the cruise.
Take care and much love to all of you.
i wanted to give everyone a quick update. i got the results from my last ctscan and my 2 spots that are left are still there but one has not grown and the other shrunk. my numbers continue to be in the "normal" range. this is great news as i will not have to do chemo again unless all hell breaks loose. as i am a mutant (i have the brca1 gene) i will have to continue an infusion twice a month called avastin that makes my mutant genes behave themselves. but so far i am tolerating it very well.
i had the pleasure of speaking with a lady the other day and we started talking about cancer. we never met before and i don't know her name. but we both lost our young moms to this shitty disease and we both were wondering why 2 beautiful souls should be taken so early in life when the people who treat others and themselves with no dignity or respect live a very long time. i said maybe it's because the good people's light burns so bright and hot that their work here is done. she said her mom called it the dash. it doesn't matter when your born or when you die, it's the dash in between that counts.
on that note....make your dash count. do small things with great love.
much love to you all ❤️
Without going into a lot of details, I, too, am battling similar. I have also set up an account. Please look into Essiac tea, raw bitter apricot seeds, and by all means, please, please, research therapeutic grade frankincense oil. These are just some of the natural treatments that I'm using with great success. Wishing her a speedy recovery
What wonderful news!! I am so happy for you and your family! Big Hugs!
HOORAY FOR THIS NEWS DORE & VAN!!

Hang in there
Wonderful news! ♥
Exciting and wonderful news! So happy for you and your family =)
Considering her employment history, I hope you guys apply (at least apply) to receive Social Security Disability Insurance. Definitely as a source of additional income. It also qualifies you for Medicare, but only after 24 months, unfortunately. You'll be in my thoughts. Get well, good luck.
Van, I did some research for you. Meats to eat are chicken , Turkey, fish. Avoid red meats( less than 18oz of red meat per week. Whole grains like rice are great for fuel. Veggies like Collard greens, broccoli and spinach are good to build her back up! If you want more info the website is guidetochemo.com really informative site hope this helps brother!!!
money is extremely tight for me right now. If I can, I will donate soon. Until then, my prayers and thoughts go out to Dore!!!
Is there an address bc I don't have a debit card. I want to donate
