Denton First is a very unique collection of Denton business owners who have pulled together in an effort to take control of some of the residual prohibition laws that still linger in our fair city.
The legal process of changing these laws is lengthy and expensive and while the members of Denton First have primed the financial pump with our own monies we need your help to finish with a successful and professional campaign in November.
The election would support local restaurants and bars by removing private club rules. "Club rules" are what make bars and some restaurants around town scan your license (data collect) before you can enter. It's a burden on them, and even costs them money to have to operate as a "club" and your personal information is tracked every time you attend. Denton County is WET and we feel the city of Denton should be as well.
The election would also allow city leaders to recruit fine wine and beverage stores to come to Denton. That means we won't be driving to neighboring cities to purchase liquor, and can keep our own tax dollars here instead of giving it to other towns.
Help us in putting Denton First by supporting our local businesses and keeping our own tax dollars here at home.
This change would mean big things for Denton. We could gain nearly $700,000 dollars per year in local sales tax revenues and create 100s of new jobs.
Costs of getting something like this done include hiring a small army of "petition-signature-getters going door to door and blanketing the town, phone calls for consumer education, campaign signs, billboards, ads, events and everything that goes into a real political campaign.
