David Chavez Benefit

Our son-in-law, David Chavez, has been diagnosed with hypersensitivity pneumonitis. This is an incurable lung disease which causes inflammation to the lungs.  David's lungs scar as a result of the inflammation and the scarring has caused severe health issues for David.  He has been under a doctor's care in Des Moines for the past couple of years and has also been evaluated at Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota.  David's condition has not responded to medication and his last evaluation at the University of Minnesota indicated his condition was worsening and his only hope at this time is a double-lung transplant.  David is a Team Leader at Target who will shortly be forced to go on disability.  He is on oxygen most of the time and cannot exert himself at all, or his oxygen levels dip down dangerously.  David and Jamie plan to list him as a recipient on the double-lung transplant list the first of June.  David and Jamie have three children, Marissa (16 years old), Ryan (10 years old) and Isaiah (7 years old).  David has incurred many medical charges since the first of the year to evaluate him as a transplant candidate.  David and Jamie have had  to go to the University of Minnesota for these evaluations and those trips always require out-of-pocket payment for travel and lodging.  David will qualify for disability from Target, but this will only be at 60% of his normal pay.  David will remain on disability until his transplant.  The transplant will be done at the University of Minnesota and he will spend a minimum of three to four weeks in the hospital.  Once he is released, he will be required to spend a minimum of ninety days in the area.  He will also be required to have a caregiver with him 24/7 during this time.  Jamie will be his primary caregiver and will not be paid during this time as she is  an hourly employee.  David and Jamie are planning to rent an apartment in the area of the University of Minnesota during this time.  Marissa, Ryan and Isaiah will be living in the Urbandale area under the care of family and friends.  David and Jamie have a home in Urbandale and will also be responsible for their mortgage and upkeep on that home during this time.  David's insurance will only cover 80% of his transplant expenses which will be horrendous.  Once the transplant is complete, David and Jamie have been told by the transplant team that the cost of his rejection medicine a month will be at least $2,000 out-of-pocket.  Jamie is the financial keeper for the family and is extremely worried about how the expenses will all be covered during this period.  I am hoping you will help by giving a donation to help David and Jamie with all the expenses from David's health and transplant.  With your help, David and Jamie can focus on David's health and recovery and not on financial issues.  Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated!!  God bless!
