Dave and Silvi's PCT Adventure
Silvina Barcos and I (David Kotlarek) are taking on the biggest physical challenge of our lives. We are moving away from our apartment in Brooklyn, NY and are going to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada.
We have been preparing for the PCT for over a year now and it has been an experience within itself! We have trained our bodies, studied maps, read books, planned and researched endlessly. We have also saved money for this goal of ours, but it still is an expensive endeavor to take on. We set a monetary goal of $3,000, but would be incredibly grateful for any sort of contribution. The money would almost solely go to food. Food, food, food. As you can imagine, we will be constantly consuming calories to maintain our appetite while hiking at a minimum of 15 miles per day. We will be stopping in trail towns every 4 days or so to load our packs with more food, wash our clothes, run any errands and take a small breather. A small portion of the money raised will go towards supplies that we may need in a pinch.
Silvi and I will be setting foot on the trail on Thursday, April 21. That gives us a few weeks to tie up in loose ends we need to get in order before departure. We plan on buying food in trail towns along the way rather than having it shipped to us. The expense works out to be about the same, and we figure we can get more variety in towns. The fund will remain open until the end of the trail, which (if all goes accordingly) will be in early September.
The PCT is something that I have wanted to do for years, but never thought that it would ever actually happen. The fact that we are just a few weeks away and have spent over a year preparing for this journey is surreal. We’re hopeful for completion, but will be just as happy to have been on the trail and experience it.
We and our stomachs will be forever grateful for any contributions that are made to our fund. Each dollar will help us get to the Canadian border where we will surely stuff our faces with as much Poutine as possible! Thank you for your help!
