D PLUS: More Than A Reality Show

Kari and I have both always been passionate about breaking stereotypes and creating unity. More than ever, our world is in need of positive media that reminds people of the fact that we are all human. No matter how much money you have, what color your skin is, how many Instagram followers you have accumulated (or bought), what you look like, or what you struggle with... we are all part of the same race.

For years now, Kari, my sister, myself, and some other friends have been very active in the Skid Row community. Skid Row is a part of downtown Los Angeles where there are thousands of homeless people living on the streets. 54 blocks of people that are usually judged, overlooked, forgotten, and sometimes treated like animals. The funny thing is that Kari and I both got very burned out by the entertainment industry and ended up making some of our best friends right there on skid row; some of the most hilarious, authentic, kind people you could ever meet. We all do everything together and its beautiful because our bond has nothing to do with our living situations or our social status. Whenever someone is in need, we pull together and give the best we got.

At one point, Kari suggested that our little crew help me shoot some music videos instead of doing things Hollywood's way. I was reluctant at first, but the glitter-and-glitz thing has never really appealed to me anyway. We decided to shoot 8 music videos, even though no one in our crew knew the first thing about music video shoots. Just me, some friends from Skid Row, my girlfriend, and my little sister, with no money, no plan, and no clue as to what the heck we were doing. The amazing part was that it didn't even matter. Our focus was not on the outcome, but rather on the process. We were just taking joy in pursuing dreams with what little resources we had. After we completed the music videos, we compiled all of our behind the scenes footage and realized we accidentally had a show on our hands. Everyone kept saying "America needs to see this!!". So, we decided to buckle down and create a show around these video shoots. We decided to name the show "D PLUS" because in the eyes of society, we are all below average. Our goal in creating this show is not to end homelessness, or feed the hungry, or promote one single person. Our goal is to entertain while also inspiring people to step outside of their comfort zone and get to know someone different than them. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do for someone is just include them. And, sometimes the most fulfilling thing we can do is take action NOW. Stop waiting for perfect conditions to make a difference. (Ecclesiastes 11:4 - "If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.")
Who knows... Your new best friend may just be the person that you least expect, and you just may create something beautiful together.

Here is where you guys come in... For the past year and a half, we have done as much as we can do on our own. By ourselves, we produced, edited, and did all the music for this show with no budget, fueling ourselves with ramen noodles and dollar burritos. The next phase is getting this show to the world. That takes marketing dollars and all kinds of random advertising costs. We are so confident that this show could do something great if it only had a fair chance. We would love to not only hire a marketing team, but to be able give them the kind of budget it takes to get "D PLUS" promoted across all kinds of platforms.

If you can give financially, that would be an incredible blessing, but there are also other ways to give. Sharing this show with friends and family is HUGE. The more people we can get this in front of, the better. Also, if there are people you may be able to connect us with that can help in the area of marketing and promotion, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you guys for taking time to read this and for being a part of "D PLUS".

If you guys have any questions about "D PLUS" or about giving, please feel free to reach out at any time! We want to do our best to partner together in making this world the place we know it can be... One friend at a time :)
