Study Abroad in Moscow

ABOUT
In 2009 I began studying Russian as an undergraduate at Kent State University (KSU) in Kent, Ohio. In 2014 I graduated with two Bachelor of Science degrees: French Translation and Russian Translation. Now, I have returned to KSU as a graduate student and I am pursuing my Master of Arts in Translation on the Russian language track. I presently have a 3.8 GPA and am thriving. Still, I have not yet been to Russia, and I finally have the opportunity to go.
As of March 1, 2017 I was accepted into the American Councils Advanced Russian Language and Area Studies Program (RLASP) and I could not be happier. I will be in the program from June-August 7. While in Russia I will study the language and culture intensively, and for credit. This is a dream come true!
Right now the only barrier to my dream is a financial one. I've been accepted and I am receiving $4,000 from Title VIII funding via American Councils , for which I am very grateful.
Still, the remaining cost of the program is $4,750 after those scholarships are accounted for, $1,500 of which is due as a deposit by the end of April.
Beyond that, participants are responsible for transportation costs, which I have estimated to total $1,250 for the orientation in Washington D.C. and then roundtrip travel to and from St. Petersburg, Russia.

WHAT YOU'VE MADE POSSIBLE
Thanks to your donations I have been able to take care of the $60 payment to the Kent State University Office of Global Education, as well as my passport renewal! The other funds you have contributed are going to be put toward airfaire. That is my next major priority.

WHY IT MATTERS
As I build my career I hope to work with vulnerable populations in need of language services, from refugees to crime victims. Traveling abroad will help me to develop the necessary linguistic and cultural competency to find a career in which I can make a difference.
With your help, I can go to St. Petersburg, Russia, live with a host family, earn graduate credit, and experience the journey of a lifetime.
To thank you for your donation I will send you a postcard from St. Petersburg while I am abroad! After donating please message me directly through this website or my LinkedIn page (see below) so that I know where to send the postcard.
Thank you in advance for donating, sharing this campaign, or both!

Note: I will update the goal amount as I am informed about scholarship or loan awards.
