Duane Dlouhy's Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
You may know him as “Lou”, “Double-D” or "the guy who made the winning catch that gave Boise State a National Championship". We know him as our brother, father, husband, son, brother-in-law, son-in-law, father-in-law, and most importantly - Papa.

One thing we all can agree on, is that he is the fun-loving guy with a joke up his sleeve followed by the loudest laugh you’ve ever heard.

Duane Dlouhy was enjoying Memorial Day weekend in 2015 on CDA Lake when he experienced a massive rectal bleed. After undergoing multiple tests; x-rays, blood tests, and a colonoscopy, Duane was given a clean bill of health. The last year and a half, he has struggled to feel himself again. He was in constant pain, struggling with stomach issues and feeling horrible overall. Duane continued to seek medical attention in hopes of finding relief, with the doctors misdiagnosing him the entire time. It wasn’t until he was seeking a life insurance policy that tests detected he may have cancer.

In August, Duane was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer.

Duane's healthcare team is devoted to giving him the best care possible. His cancer, however, is complicated as it has metastasized to his lungs and a lymph node.

Currently, the cancer is considered inoperable. He is receiving oral chemotherapy on a daily basis and intravenous chemotherapy every three weeks with the hope that the tumors will shrink, and that they will be able to operate at a later date. It is necessary for them to find a specialized surgeon at a larger hospital who is willing to operate on his tumors. His oncologist has recommended he seek additional treatment at the Mayo Clinic, which specializes in the treatment of colorectal cancer. Duane was accepted and will travel to Minnesota later this month for his first of many appointments.

The good news is Duane is overall a very tough and healthy individual. The doctors are hitting him hard with everything he can handle. The side effects have been challenging, yet he continues to work and enjoy the things in life he loves.

Duane, Debbie, Dustin, Drue and Demi are blessed to have many people who love and care about them. They are appreciative of the prayers offered and words of support expressed by so many. It has given them strength as they begin what will be a long process as they explore the best medical options available.

So many have reached out asking how they can help so we have set up a go-fund-me account as an opportunity to do so.

It is with love of friends and family, a strong medical team, and God’s strength that Duane will BEAT THIS.
