Riconoscendo l’importanza del diritto ai fini della promozione e della tutela dei diritti umani, lo studio legale DLA Piper collabora con agenzie delle Nazioni Unite, Organizzazioni Non Governative, strutture accademiche e centri di studio, con persone fisiche e giuridiche, con l’obiettivo di migliorare l’accesso alla giustizia e la protezione giuridica dei diritti umani attraverso l’attività pro bono.
Il 24 agosto 2016, un terremoto di magnitudo 6.2 con epicentro situato lungo la Valle del Tronto, ha devastato i comuni di Accumoli, Amatrice (Provincia di Rieti) e Arquata del Tronto, causando 297 morti e 4629 sfollati. Altri gravissimi eventi sismici hanno ripetutamente colpito la zona nei mesi scorsi e hanno successivamente danneggiato in modo serio, tra gli altri, i comuni di Ussita, Preci, Norcia, Cascia e Visso.
DLA Piper ha deciso di mettere in campo una serie di iniziative nell'ambito del progetto "HeartQuake" a favore delle vittime di #terremotocentroItalia. In particolare, lo Studio legale ha aderito al programma "Adotta un'opera", raccogliendo fondi per costruire il Nuovo Ospedale che sostituirà il Grifoni di Amatrice - irrimediabilmente danneggiato - dotato di pronto soccorso, sale operatorie e degenza.
Utilizzando i canali ufficiali di comunicazione dello Studio, DLA Piper procederà al follow-up continuativo sull'iniziativa, con aggiornamenti relativi allo stato dell'arte delle varie fasi del progetto.
Lo scopo dell'iniziativa è quello di contribuire alla realizzazione per Amatrice e i suoi abitanti di una struttura sicura dove ricevere le cure necessarie, ma soprattutto restituire la speranza alle vittime di questa enorme tragedia.

Central Italy has recently been devastated by the strongest earthquakes in decades. On 24 August 2016, a 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit a string of hill towns and villages across central Italy, in Valle del Tronto, destroying the towns of Arquata del Tronto, Amatrice and Accumoli. On the 30th of October, a 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck close to the already shattered region, hitting a large number of towns in the area, including Ussita, Preci, Norcia, Cascia and Visso.
297 people lost their lives and an estimated 15,000 people have been left homeless. With ongoing aftershocks, this number looks set to grow.
In addition to the loss of human life, the earthquake has also caused widespread destruction of the precious and individual cultural heritage of the area, at least 293 cultural and historical sites are reported damaged or destroyed. The earthquakes have also indelibly changed the face of the region: the town of Norcia has shifted 35 centimeters west, and the Castelluccio area has sunk over 60 centimeters. The earthquake is also having a serious economic impact on a significant number of small and medium-size companies that are central to Italy's renowned food industry.
DLA Piper's Italian offices have created "HeartQuake", an initiative to support those affected by the earthquake. This includes taking part in the "Adotta un'opera" (Adopt a building) programme, launched by Amatrice to raise funds for the construction of a new hospital.
