"The Journey of the New Beginnings lll"
Feb 24, 2016 At 8 am, there was a little prayer gathering on the shores of Sachigo Lake First Nation for the walkers of the 'Journey of New Beginnings lll' prepared themselves for the long walk to Thunder Bay. Targeted date to arrive in Thunder Bay is March 9th or 10th.
The purpose of this walk is to raise funds to develop a living centre for our students that leave their reservation to get more education. Our local schools can only offer grade 8. Leaving is the only option. The living centre would accommodate all northern reserve students that committed to leave their community for education. Cultural and sport activities would be available and the living centre would be their home away from home. Of course, this will include house rules.
And most importantly, the walk commemorate the seven students who died during their journey to pursue an education that we lack of in our reserves. Each parent notified and indeed, had granted permission/blessings to the walkers to carry out in remembrance of each student lives lost.
