Darryl Denham Memorial Scholarship

$18,550 of $20,000 goal

Darryl Denham was a proud graduate of Roosevelt High in Gary, Indiana.  He went on to Indiana University on a football scholarship and began his career in Sales at Xerox Corporation in Indianapolis.  After returning home to Gary and working at Xerox for a total of 34 years, Darryl suddenly passed away leaving a son and a daughter to carry on his community service.  Darryl helped many friends and relatives find careers at Xerox, and helped many co-workers become more successful through his mentorship and hard work.  He also cared for his elderly family members, volunteered at church and Roosevelt high; alway lending a helping hand to those in need.
We, his surviving friends, are creating a college scholarship in his name, for graduating seniors from his old high school, so that they can go on to great achievements after high school.

The scholarship will be geared toward students, both male and female, who are in the top 50% of their class, and who have a desire to attend a four year university.  Because Uncle Darryl saw the potential in everyone, this scholarship will be offered to students who exceeed all obstacles, and has dedicated themselves to changing their life for the better.

The application will be made available at Darryls church, St Paul Baptist Church, and his former high school, Roosevelt High, both of his hometown of Gary, Indiana.  The application will capture both academic and extra curricular activities and at least one letter of recommendation.

Our goal is to distribute the funds at a luncheon/fundraiser at the end of every calendar year for the forseeable future.  Thank you for participating.  We have selected three recipients for the class of 2014, and three in 2015 - please continue to contribute so that we can do the same next year.  Thank you,
