LIGHT A CANDLE .. GIVE HOPE

In honor of Mohamed's mother, who is a cancer survivor, and Dr. Spinner, our mentor, AND for the sake of those who have lost their loved ones, we are now launching our first fundraising initiative.

Motives and Aims
In 2002, Mohamed's life changed, taking a hard turn to the left when his mother first began her battle with breast cancer. Four years later, she was suffering from seizures due to brain metastasis. He never forgot the horror of these experiences, the devastation that became a regular part of his mother's life, something that she was forced to face head on constantly. It set him on a new path in life, imbuing him with a mission that drives him forward to this very day. 

Research is our best weapon in the fight against diseases.
Our research focuses on investigating a common genetic disorder that causes tumors to form on nerve tissue anywhere in nervous system known as “Neurofibromatosis". When neurofibromatosis causes large tumors or tumors that press on a nerve, surgery can help only to ease symptoms and often fails or leaves patient with variable degrees of paralysis. To date, there is neither a preventive nor curative method for this group of nerve tumors. The Increasing failure rates of cancer chemotherapies prompt us to move and find a solution.

In spending time in the clinic, we have witnessed firsthand the social and financial hurdles faced by our patients stricken with such debilitating nerve tumors. Sadly, a lot of patients lose their jobs and their social life is impacted due to complications of neurofibromatosis such as: paralysis, severe pain, hearing loss, heart and blood vessel problems, learning disability, loss of vision, and optic glioma (malignant brain tumor). 
Therefore, Now more than ever, we need to do whatever we can to fund the sort of research that is useful in the fight against nerve cancers.

Our primary goals are: 
 1-To raise $200,000 to support Neurofibromatosis's unremitting research efforts in deciphering unidentified culprit genes. The goal is to hinder the passage of genetically based Neurofibrmatosis to offspring through promising trials of gene therapies. Such endeavors may also open a path to a cure for non-resectable tumors and reduction of recurrence rates after surgeries. 

2-To raise $50,000 to support education and training programs for the new generations of neurosurgeons at the Mayo Clinic.

There is yet so much that we can do to get equiped in this battle, and it is up to all of us to see that we are working toward a better future when it comes to brain and nerve tumors. By contributing to this campaign, you are doing your part.

Example of how devastating Neurofibromatosis can be: A photo showing innumerable tumors (resembling lipomas) arising from skin nerves. These are called "Neurofibromas". They strongly indicate affection of the deeper body nerves by the addition of more serious tumors.
