Crimson Cupboard Food Pantry

Donation protected
My name is Mercedes Jones and I am a senior at Indiana University Bloomington. This past summer I was hired as an intern to complete research on the issue of food scarcity on college campuses and specifically here at IU.  What I found was that there are a number of students (undergraduate and graduate) who struggle with issues that prevent them from being able to afford food. Here at IU specifially, there are a number of cases of what we call "Hidden Hunger", because many students are not comfortable telling anyone that they do not have the means to eat. During the course of my  internship I heard stories of students stealing to eat, eating tuna and pickles for weeks, and having to buy food instead of books. It is important to realize that not all college students are rich and not all students are financially supported by parents and financial aid.

Currently I serve as the Executive Director for the Crimson Cupboard student food pantry at IU and we have set our Grand Opening for Tuesday December 1 at 5:00 pm. With that being said we are looking for donations and funds to purchase the necessary food items we need to stock the shelves and sustain us while we are starting out. If you would like to donate food items, I have included the wish list below and my e-mail is [email redacted].edu to coordiante pick-up/drop-off times.

The pantry serves all IU students, undergraduate AND graduate students with families. The service is free of charge and requires nothing except their student ID card.

I hope that everyone will realize how much need there truly is here in Bloomington, and understand that every dollar counts. Help us to end hunger here at IU. #NoMoreHungryHoosiers
