Crafting a Legacy in Gettysburg
Donation protected

I am Amy Dreves and I've taught art at Gettysburg Area High School for nearly 15 years. I have watched amazing students grow personally and inspire others though their art. I have been fortunate to see siblings and families of artists come through my classroom. Two dynamic young sisters have made their mark at Gettysburg High School through the creation of murals.
When little Taylor was in 4th grade, she fondly remembers her big sister, Amanda, designing mosaic murals for Gettysburg High School and her community.
...and she dreamed of following Amanda in her footsteps.
6 years later, Taylor is doing just that! This creative young lady began an epic project on a large wall in the school library. The librarian requested something relative to school spirit and wanted the arrowhead symbol for the Gettysburg Warriors. We had some left over tiles from projects here at the high school and from Taylor's house. Taylor gathered a lot of donated materials from a dumpster with permission from Dal Tile. It seemed like a lot and the project seemed to go swiftly. She got to a certain level on the mural, and then sadly she began to run out of materials. When she priced the supplies, it came to over $300. Because our school budget is planned nearly a year and a half in advance, we did not predict that we would need these materials when she started the concept and project in August. We believed that materials could be acquired from leftovers from old jobs. Unfortunately, we discovered that maroon is not a commonly used color, so we have hit a point where we need to purchase the remaining materials, and the money is not there. I would be so thankful for any donations that would come in so that Taylor could prepare for graduation in May, knowing that she attained a goal she'd envisioned since her elementary days. It will mean the world to me and to her to have her older sister come and help her put on the final touches to complete this mosaic mural as a family legacy at Gettysburg High School.
