Combat vet's pup needs surgery
Donation protected
I am currently fostering a 17 month old beagle. Named Cooter. Cooter came to me through Dogs on Delployment, an organization that finds fosters for military personnel who are deployed or otherwise in need of help caring for their pets while in service to our country. Cooter's owner is a young combat veteran currently undergoing PTSD treatment at Camp Hope in Houston. Cooter was born with a liver shunt which prevents blood from passing through his liver to cleanse it of toxins. As a result he is on a prescription diet and daily medication. He is unable to process any animal proteins.
The surgery to remove the shunt is complicated and requires a 2-3 month recovery period with follow up blood work at 6,12, and 24 months. With surgery he could go on to live a normal life. Without surgery, his life span would be reduced to 18-24 months. Pre surgery tests to date have run just under $1000, surgery has been estimated at $3800 plus follow up appointments, blood tests, medication and prescription food.
We are very fortunate to have all the medical resources available to us in Houston and surgery can be scheduled as soon as funding is received.
This is little pup and his owner have been through a lot and our goal is get them both healthy so they can go home together once his owner has completed his PTSD program.
Any assistance that you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
