Colton's Wheel Chair Ramp

Donation protected

Our son Colton was born on September 20, 2012. We were told we were having a healthy baby girl. When Colton was born, we learned not only was he a boy, but he also had some serious physical challenges.

Colton was born with a condition known as Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC). This meant he had severely disfigured legs and no use of his arms.

To date, Colton has endured 7 surgeries to help correct his dislocated hips, reconstruct his ankles, and to fix a double inguinal hernia. His last surgery was in December 2014. During this surgery, his left hip was surgically repaired. He also had 1/2 inch of his femur removed to help with the hip repair, and will have to do that once a year until he stops growing.

Also, Colton has no use of his arms. Doctors cannot determine why, but they all agree he will never be able to use them. This is quite rare for people with AMC, but Colton adapts and will continue to fight.

Colton still has several more surgeries to go. He will need another set of hip surgeries, knee surgeries, and most likely several more ankle surgeries. He suffers from joint pain and muscle cramps and spasms in his legs.

The possibility of walking is still several more years away. However, because of the surgeries, if Colton does walk he will struggle with walking long distances or times. Because of this, Colton is getting a special purpose power wheel chair.

The power chair that Colton is getting is rather big, due to the power seat elevator that he will require to get in and out of the wheel chair. Because of it's size getting in the house will be a challenge. Not only will we need a wheelchair ramp, but the front porch will have to be extended to allow for the chair to enter the house.

Any donations towards this large-scale addition and remodel is more welcome than you could ever know. Please feel free to share our story.
