TCS NYC Marathon

Dear Friends and Family;

The day after my 50th birthday I completed my 6th full marathon. As a birthday present to myself, I signed up for #7. That one was completed on Dec 12, 2015. Some of you think I’m crazy, but I see it as a testament to God’s promises. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through him who strengthens.” (ISV). I know that is a fact. You see, I didn’t start running until I was 40. I was going through a separation and ultimately a divorce and I needed an out. Somewhere to cry and pray where no one would bother me or see my tears. I ran. I ran to God. I ran for God. I used my time in prayer, searching, and I discovered Philippians 4:13. I can. Through Christ. He gives me strength.

Many runners have bucket lists. Yes, I consider myself a runner after doing countless 5K, 10K, 15K, half marathons, and now 7 full marathons. I have used my time running, training, and racing praying for most of you, many by name and with specific prayer requests. During two marathon races I had a list. 26 names, 26 prayer requests. One for each mile. I continue to do that, whether it is written down or not. Every mile and every moment is spent in conversation with God. As I said, most runners have bucket lists, a list of races we would like to do before we are unable to run anymore. Me, I plan on running and racing until I physically cannot or I’m no longer on this earth. My long-term goal is to be the oldest person to run a marathon. Currently, the oldest woman is 92 so I have a few years to go. In any event, Boston, Chicago, New York, London, those are the big ones that everyone wants to do but are very difficult to get in. My fastest race was 10 minutes shy of qualifying for Boston. I’m still chasing that rabbit and I’ll catch him soon! On the very top of my list is New York City. My son was born in New York Hospital and I worked there for three years. I want to go back and run the city.

To guarantee my spot, I have to either join the NYC runners club, qualify by time, win the race lottery, or join a charity fundraiser. Fundraising is really the best way to do it in order to guarantee running it now, now being November 6, 2016. So, I have decided, after much thought, consideration, and prayer to join a charity. The charities for next year have not been announced, however, I am starting my fundraising through GoFundMe in order to get a jump start and ensure my minimum has been met.

The minimum amount I need to raise is $2500.00. As an incentive for businesses to donate, here is what I will do for you:
Gold tier: Donate $250.00 or more and I will 1) mention your name/business in every social media post I make from the day of your donation until race day and a week after. 2) Wear your hat or company t-shirt once a week during training 3) enter your name in a drawing to wear your hat on race day (for every $250 get one entry) 4) Mention your name in my thank you posts after race day.
Silver tier: Donate $100.00 to $249.00 and I will 1) mention your name/business in every social media post once a week. 2) Mention your name in my thank you post after race day.
Bronze tier: Donate up to $99.00 and I will 1) Mention your name in my thank you posts after race day.

If you are a business and would like to donate an item or service that I can use to raise additional funds I will gladly accept that and enter you in whichever tier that item raises. (bring in 200, tier Silver)

Thank you so much for your support. Every little bit helps. I will let you know what charity I have joined as soon as I have done so.  I need to have my goal met by 10/1/2016.

Search Me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Psalm 139.

I made a few additions to my gallery.  See that blank spot between the yellow ribbon and the green one?  Saving that for New York!  With your help, we can fill that spot.
