Mt Kilimanjaro Hike For A Library!
I've been incredibly fortunate with the cards I've been dealt in life. I've never had to worry where my next meal will come from, or if I'll have a roof over my head, or if whether or not my future children will be educated.
I've never wondered whether or not I was going to have a Christmas or birthday present. So for this holiday season through after my birthday (Jan 13), this is all I want!
Jan 21-Feb 4 2016, I will be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro!
The purpose of the climb is to raise $50,000 to build the computer lab wing of the Madaraka Nyerere Library and Community Resource Center (LCRC). This facility will serve 10,000 children and 100 primary and secondary teachers in the Bukwaya region of Tanzania.
This Library and Community Resource Center to be built on the grounds of the Nyegina Secondary School, is to be a community space—an area where children, youth and adults can come together, read, develop computer skills, and increase their personal and professional knowledge by taking advantage of literacy materials and high-speed internet access. With all the different opportunities Internet access creates (such as online high school, Bachelor's degrees, Master's degrees, and different certifications) this library and community resource center has the potential to change their lives forever, helping them out of poverty, into healthier, longer, more satisfying lives.
