Supporting Miss Lee's Classroom

Hello All! I am about to enter the rewarding field of teaching through Teach For America (TFA) in Eastern North Carolina. Just a little background on the work TFA, they are a non-profit organization with the goal of place teachers in high need areas in hopes of ONE DAY seeing educational equity in our nation. I have committed a minimum of two years teaching 6th grade at Farmville Middle School in Pitt County, NC. 6th grade is an eventful year and I'm excited about the growth and acheviement I know that I would be recieving from my students!

I decided to create a GoFundMe account based on the needs that I forsee in my classroom. Due to the lack of HS Social Studies positions avaliable in TFA placement counties, TFA required me to switch my subject to MS Math. This is was a HUGE change. After 6 long weeks of waiting and praying, I have been placed at Farmville. Though it wasn't my original assignment, I am eager to learn with my kids as I teach them (and myself :) to love math. As most of you know, the school year started about 2 weeks ago so I am very ill prepared and finacially unable to provide my classroom with basic needs.

While I am extremely excited about this opportunity to have a direct impact on the kids in Pitt County, I need some help! I realize that this is a big task which is where you come in! As a recent college graduate, I simply do not have the extra money to spend on school supplies or classroom decor. I spent my summer teaching High School US History in Ruleville, MS without pay, and I am now in the process of moving to my placement area at my own expense. While I wish that I had all the money in the world to invest in my kids, unfortunately that is not my reality.

I do plan to purchase many things for my classroom on my own throughout the year. However I will not receive my first pay check until the end of September. This pay will be based off of Long Term Substitute Pay until my Praxis Scores for math are returned. I am asking for help purchasing the supplies I will need to finally get my year started.
