Hi! I'm Clare Masters. For the last few years, I have been on disability benefits (due to complications from surguries, failed back surgery (I need revision surgery in 2019),  Sjogrens Syndrome, Rheumatoid arthritis, Pheripheal neuropathy,  Fibromalygia, Seizure Disorder, Hypothyroidism, Spinal stenosis and spondylothesis
in neck and lumbar spine) until it was terminated December 31, 2015. Recently, I was recently (January 2017) diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Fibromaylgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Sjogrens Syndrome all cause severe pain and fatigue during a flare up .  Sjogren's Syndrome  is an autoimmune disease similar to rheumatoid arthritis, affecting the joints and moisture-producing glands. During a flare-up, I experience extreme pain, fatigue. I am on an immunosuppressant to help with the symptoms of the Sjogren's Syndrome and Rheumatoid arthritis but that also means that   I am susceptible to infections, making it nearly impossible to work or do other activities.  When I have an infection, I am not allowed to take the medication that treats the Sjogren's Syndrome and RA.
I'm currently in the process of waiting for my disability benefits to be reinstated. The disability hearing is set for December 19th.  It will take 8-12 weeks for a result.  My attorney is confident that I will win.  He doesn't get paid if I don't win.  I am expecting 5 years of back pay but Illinois has a maximum amount attorneys can receive regardless of the award amount.  I am currently looking for a place to live January 1st to the end of March when social security payments are expected to come in.  I need approximately $300 per month that covers medications not covered by insurance, vitamins and supplements, cell phone bill, student loan bill, and personal hygiene supplies.  If you look at he total amount given it's been coming in over the course of 2 years.  To live on $4000/year you have to be pretty frugal and rely on the generosity of others.  Please consider giving or helping me out with a place to stay beginning January 1st, 2019 for 3 months.  Thank you and God bless.

I am hoping that the ground hog was right and there was only 6 more weeks of winter back on Feb 2nd. Yesterday I braved the cold and walked to the College Avenue Station to go to Northwestern Hospital in Chicago for my bi annual visit to my orthopedic back surgeon to check in with him about my upcoming spinal fusion revision surgery. He went over the surgery (actually 2 surgeries) risks and what I need to do to prepare for it. The biggest prayer besides my disability decision to be favorable and come in in March is to be able to exercise, eat better, and loose 50 more pounds before we can schedule the surgery. He explained that no matter how strong the titanium rods are, the resistance from the extra weight will break the rods again. Weight has always been a struggle for me because as the weight comes off painful emotions come up for me. Before I had running and exercise but because of my lack of energy in the last few years, that kind of exercise has been impossible. Pain in my back, legs and feet have kept me from walking as far as I would like. I see my orthopedic surgeon again on July 2, Please pray that I make headway (I am hoping for 10 pounds a month) as well as my disability decision (its still in the writing phase according to my attorney's office). If you can help with my upcoming student loan bill of$50, I would appreciate it. It's due on March 1st. Blessings Clare

I am happy to say that its been 18 days since I have been in the hospital. In January, I was in the hospital 1/3 of January. That is a performance I don't want a repeat of. I have bee feeling a little run down since my first Actmra IV infusion (Medication for my Sjogren's Syndrome). I have been more fatigued. I had a number of blood tests today to see if maybe I had any vitamin deficiencies or low iron. Funny my bariatric surgeon forgot to tell me I had low iron in August. That would be an easy fix. Pray for easy answer to this fatigue and low energy. Continue to pray for my disability decision. My judge; Judge Studniski is writing my decision this month. Pray for favor and that I would begin receiving back pay and checks very soon.

My low energy didn't stop me from celebrating my kid friend Jalayna Roney's 9th birthday on Saturday. Jalayna is the beautiful girl with the black curly hair.

This week I had an EMG and my first Actmra infusion. For those of you who don't know what an EMG/Nerve conduction study is; it is Electromyography (EMG) measures muscle response or electrical activity in response to a nerve's stimulation of the muscle. The test is used to help detect neuromuscular abnormalities. ... After an electrode has been inserted, you may be asked to contract the muscle, for example, by lifting or bending your leg. A nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test is used to assess nerve damage and dysfunction. Also known as a nerve conduction study, the procedure measures how quickly electrical signals move through your peripheral nerves. Your peripheral nerves are located outside of your brain and along your spinal cord. I have had this test before and I usually swear 10-12 times and I cry because it hurts so much but this time I didn't cry and I only swore twice. You would think that this is good but in actuality it's not. It means that I couldn't feel the impulses the doctor put in my muscles and nerves. I will talk to my neurologist more when I see him next month. Yesterday I had my first Actmra infusion for my Sjogren's syndrome/RA. It took 2.5 hours because it was my first time and the nurse had to take blood and call my doctor to see how much I should get in my IV. They gave me steroids, tylenol and Benedryl to ward against potential allergic reactions. I was particularly tired when I got hope but then the steroids kicked in and I didn't get to sleep till after midnight. I ended up sleeping till 10:30 a.m. It usually takes 2-3 monthly doses to feel benefit. today. I am hoping it helps with my extreme fatigue. I am praying and I hope you will too for my disability decision to come through in the next 4-6 weeks. I am staying with a couple and their 20 year old son till the end of March. I hope I can look for an apartment in the end of March. I am number 5 on the waiting list of some apartments owned by College Church. Pray that both these things come through. Blessings, Clare

So excited because according to the paralegal at my disability attorney's office, the judge in my disability case is writing my decision brief this month. I am trusting God as my advocate and I am hoping to hear by the beginning of March.

Clare, wonderful that you had that evening with Ven. Mukan!! What a blessing to have him at Rez during Revive. Sorry to hear about that mass in your abdomen - you must be battling fear as you wait to learn more. Know that there are hundreds at Rez & elsewhere you love you and will walk with you, whatever this road holds. You are not alone.
