Creating A City of Murals

The San Diego Cultural Arts Alliance  is a nonprofit dedicated to education, empowering and inspiring youth through the arts, along with creating a mural program that gives voice to communities and the spirit of their values. We educate youth at risk of entering the juvenile system due to graffiti vandalism and allow them to create and express themselves in beneficial and sustaining ways. 

We are raising money to fund public murals in San Diego. Our focus is our new community mural at Teralta Park. All funds raised through GoFundMe will go towards purchasing artist's materials such as paint and brushes. These funds will also allow us to pay our artists. With your support of this project, we will also be able to have graduates of our artist programs work under our artists' mentorship on our mural in Teralta Park. 

Graffiti vandalism costs over 16 million dollars a year in San Diego County just for cleaning and removal. We spend millions incarcerating youth, which secures these youths in a school to prison pipeline since 75 percent reoffend. The solution is education. The San Diego Cultural Arts Alliance has created an education program and a mural arts program to address and end graffiti vandalism. Since the Alliance began teaching mural and art education two years ago, we have had over 580 youth go through our program. Those who were caught or charged doing graffiti vandalism, have yet to re-offend.

Our mural project in Teralta Park is slated to begin on November 15, 2016.
