Chrysalis Class Puppy Fundraiser

Donación protegida
Chrysalis Charter School's classroom puppy, Copper, was only 11 months when he passed away very unexpectedly a few days ago.  Copper was a wonderful classroom companion, and his loss has left a huge hole in the hearts of all the students and staff. I am the principal of the school. On behalf of the students, I would like to set up this Go Fund Me campaign to help purchase a new classroom puppy for Mr. Casey, the fifth and sixth grade science and math teacher that Copper went home with every evening. https://www.chrysalischarterschool.com/casey-link

Copper was hugged and loved the entire day by the 200+ children in kindergarten through eighth grade that come to Chrysalis.  The fifth and sixth grade students in particular are devastated. During class, Copper wandered amongst the desks licking a hand here, warming someone's knee there. Every recess and lunch the students took him for walks and played chase with him across the playground. He was a therapy dog for several kids with emotional problems, and a friend for when kids were feeling down or lonely.  Many of the students at school do not have pets of their own, and Copper was able to be "theirs" at school. Copper was a hypoallergenic goldendoodle and did not shed, a characteristic essential in a classroom pet. I remember a first grade student who was so excited that he was able to pet Copper without breaking into hives. He was never able to pet dogs before.

Some days kids come to school to learn about math but last Thursday, kids came to school and learned about loss. The school counselor and I spent the day visiting each classroom and breaking the news to the students. There were many many tears that day, but the students also shared beautiful, joyful memories of Copper and other pets from the past that will never be forgotten though they are no longer with us. The students brainstormed many ideas for how to remember Copper, from erecting a statue to assembling a book of pictures and stories and many many more ideas. Several students suggested we raise money to help get a new classroom puppy, and that idea resonated strongly with Mr. Casey. The loss of Copper has been extremely hard on Mr. Casey.

The students and I would like to help Mr. Casey buy another miniature goldendoodle or labradoodle to raise in the classroom. These type of dogs are easily trained, very family and kid friendly, and just the right size for our school. Their super soft fur is hypoallergenic and therapeutic. Mini goldendoodles and labradoodles are expensive, but are well worth the price because of the traits that make them so perfect as a classroom pet. Copper was $2000 plus the medical expenses of neutering, vaccines, and preventative care. We would use all donations to purchase a new puppy for Mr. Casey and help his family with veterinary expenses. In fact, there are several litters of puppies ready to go home in just a few weeks from a nearby breeder https://signaturelabradoodles.com/PuppiesAvailableCurrent.html  As a teacher supporting two young boys and a wife just about to complete her nursing program, Mr. Casey cannot afford these expenses at this time.

The news of Copper's death was very hard for the students, but the news of a new puppy will lift their spirits. Please help the students of Chrysalis Charter School and Mr. Casey.
