Chris's Kidney Transplant Journey

Donation protected
Chris Cadogan was always on the go; wheeling and dealing and rarely having a bad day. As most of you know, Chris has been very successful in the car auction and brokerage industry, and many of us have enjoyed his services. For those of you who have known him well he has always been that person who was the first to ask "how can I help you".  When a mutual friend was in trouble, he was the first one to rally the troops to support them.  Chris is a wonderful son, brother, and friend.

Today, through no fault of his own, he is battling medical issues that have been and are life threatening. In May 2016, Chris suffered complete renal failure and began the arduous road to achieving a kidney transplant. This is a long and tedious process just to be accepted to the National Kidney Foundation list of recipients (there are over 200,000 in the US today). Chris was accepted and between weekly dialysis and doctor & surgeon visits, and while continuing his work at Cadogan Enterprises, the cost of this treatment has used up all his resources.

Last summer, after paying all outstanding health expenses to stay current and keep his business in good standing, he acquired an infection during a vascular Arteriovenous Fistula procedure to allow for a port in his arm (used for vein access during dialysis) Of course, with renal failure every infection is extremely serious. He was treated with a strong antibiotic and had a severe allergic reaction which produced Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. It is a rare and extremely serious condition. This reaction was essentially burning his body from the inside out. He was given large doses of the drug before the allergy was detected and he was rushed to Grady Hospital (burn center) and placed in a drug-induced coma while the doctors worked to repair the damage. He is fortunate to be alive. When he left the hospital, his recuperation began in an assisted living home trying to relearn many of the things we all take for granted. He has since been released from this home and continues his journey to get better, gaining his strength to walk again normally and receiving retinol shots every few days to regain his sight, with hopes of being able to drive again this Spring. His ultimate goal is to be reinstated to the kidney transplant list when he is deemed healthy enough to receive a kidney. Despite these difficulties and setbacks, he remains positive and still wants to help others.

Needless, to say, the focus is on getting back to 100% which leaves little time to do his "wheeling and dealing". Without this, there is no income coming in and numerous medical and housing bills to pay.  We are now beginning a new year, and it is a great time to think about lending a helping hand to a friend who could use a helping hand. Maybe, for one of the few times we have known him, we may be able to help him.

This could be any one of us. Anything you can do for him will be GREATLY appreciated! Will you help Chris on his journey to receive a kidney transplant?
