Chloe's War Room
She has began her 43 week treatment on June 8, that requires at least 2 weekly visits to Seattle Children's Hospital. She's able to stay in the Ronald McDonald house with her family when treatments and illnesses require her to be close to the hospital.
She will begin 6-7 weeks of radiation on a daily basis starting next week, when she should be continuing her Pre-med requirements at college. This will also require her Mom to take the year off work without pay in order to give Chloe the care she needs and be with her through her treatments.
Last night the families car was broken into at their hometown football game. Donated cash, gift cards, and valuables were stolen which were intended for medical and travel expenses to Children's Hospital. These monetary gifts were given to the family from friends, family and their community to help with expenses.
The funds collected from our fundraiser will help pay for medical expenses, travel to and from treatment, and supplement loss of wages. Any remaining funds would be dedicated to college education for Chloe once she kicks this cancer to the curb!
Any contributions would be greatly appreciated. We love and are very thankful for our village.
Love, Chloe & Family
Honestly, we are brought to tears when we see names of friends from present and past. From people we haven't seen or even had contact with since our HS years, to people we work with and do life with on a daily basis. It's a difficult decision to put an ask out for help when you're used to handling it on your own. This whole life-altering change in our world has helped us realize how wonderful people are and that its ok to ask for shoulders to lean on. I wish I had time to sit and personally thank every one of you. This, for now, will have to do. Just know, we love and appreciate all who contribute and/or sent prayers and blessings our way.
Well, of course, not all things stay on schedule as expected. Chloe did finally do her last chemo treatment on March 7th!! Praise Jesus! We then had a slight postponement in radiation, but completed that the last day of March. We found out the 2 larger spots in her lungs did not completely diminish with therapy. We have 2 separate thorcotomies scheduled to remove those spots. After being delayed due to low platelet counts, and a blood infection that kept her inpatient for 10 days, she finally had the first lung surgery on April 17th. The other side is scheduled for May 8th and then, Lord willing, she will be finished! She will have scans every 3 months for 1.5 years, then every 6 months for 1.5 years, and then annually after that. As long as no new spots appear, she'll be in the clear! Please continue to pray for complete healing and a speedy recovery from the final surgery. We are so blessed by all that have given to support us during this trying year, financially, and prayerfully!! ❤The Downs'
Well today completes day one of her final 5 day chemo treatments!! And after this, on March 7, is her final VAC chemo! Then 2 weeks of radiation and she is DONE!!! If all stays on schedule, she'll be cancer free by the end of March!! Can you join me in that prayer and celebration!! We'll start physical therapy in the next week or two to get her leg properly functioning. Wow! To think this is almost behind us!!! It's an unbelievable feeling that tests my faith in many ways. I'm believing in complete healing and restoration for my girl! I'm trusting that she will have no future issues in regard to this nasty disease. I'm assured that God's purpose and plan will be revealed and fulfilled. Thank you for your continued prayers as we finish strong❤❤
Here we are at week 36 of 43! There's a light we're seeing at the end. One more VAC, 2 more 5 days, and 6 more VCR and 2 weeks of radiation on her lungs. To be able to put a number to them feels like a breath of fresh air. Please continue to pray for the nerves in her leg. We content for complete healing in every area of her body!! Chloe is truly a fighter and has withstood this like a champion!! She never complains, she doesn't have a "poor me" mentality, she is still living life with a hope and confidence that thrills me as her mom. She's an inspiration. She will conquer. Cancer has nothing over this girl!!! Thank you God and friends and family for walking with us. Please continue to lift her up in prayer. ❤️
Honestly if you've never been in a situation like ours, you'll never truly understand how it feels to have people join in to support you and give selflessly. When there's names you've never seen, people you've never met face to face, friends of friends of friends, all contributing to one cause, it's so incredibly humbling. There's no way to ever thank all of you personally, and that makes me sad. Maybe when Chloe's all better and she's kicked this crap to the curb, we'll have a celebration!!! You'll all be invited!
It was one year ago, June 1, that our life changed. Focus was shifted, tears fell, doubts crept in and fears arose. It was the beginning of a year of struggles and pain and sadness and the unknown. Many nights away from home and life as we knew it. It was also a year of friendships, faithfulness, family and perseverance. It was a year of seeing the strongest person I'll ever know handle the biggest battle of her life with strength and dignity and a positive attitude. She'll forever be admired by me. Our relationship will never be the same. She is my hero. As a great song says: "I may never understand, That my broken heart is a part of your plan. When I try to pray All I’ve got is hurt and these four words: Thy will be done. It’s hard to count it all joy Distracted by the noise Just trying to make sense Of all your promises Sometimes I gotta stop Remember that you’re God And I am not! So Thy will be done. " He's still working. We still need his healing touch to continue to work in her. There's still uncertainty, but it's followed by faith in a Father who has her best interest in His plan. We've been loved well and been blessed by many. We are so thankful. Words could never express. Chloe's 3 month scans from June 26 showed no new spots and the original tumors are still shrinking and dividing. This is the news we hoped for. Praise Jesus! All is well. Now we do scans every 3 months, so pray there's no growth and nothing new ever again! We just wanted to give an update and express once again how grateful and blessed we are by so many who gave and prayed and sat by our side during this battle. We love you all. ❤
We got the results from the re scans and things are doing as they expected. Thank God there are no new spots and the tumors are shrinking from the chemo and radiation. The larger tumor is wrapped around a nerve in her leg, causing some discomfort when she walks. We're confident that will resolve itself as the tumor disipates. We're praying she's healthy and feeling well over Christmas. We appreciate your continued prayers and support.
We are in week 26 of the 43 weeks of treatment. There are re staging scans scheduled for December 12. Please continue to pray for the results to be positive and even miraculous. The treatments are becoming a little harder to recover from as her body fights against everything that's being put in it. Please keep her in your prayers. Thank you for continuing to stand by us.
Here we are at the final treatment of this 7 week horror known as radiation!!! The burns on her leg is like the worst sunburn a white white girl could ever have times 1000. Please pray for a complete and speedy healing for them all. We get to stay at home for a while. We're expecting low counts after her chemo this week, so we know we won't be gone long, but we get to go for now!! Thank You for standing beside us!! Much love❤️
So we are heading in to week 4 of radiation. That part has so far been fairly uneventful as far as side affects. Praise God! Today she is getting admitted to Childrens hospital to start the TPN (nutrition through her port) due to her inability to keep weight on. She could be there all week as they monitor and adjust the amounts she requires. Chloe also started the 5 day cycle of chemo today. It potentially could be a rough week so any prayers would be greatly appreciated. We will take all we can get. Thank You for your continued prayers and support. Much love to you all
Nearly done with week 2 of radiation and it hasn't been an easy week. Chloe's dropped 5 more pounds because nothing she tries to eat stays down. Lots of resting in store. She's getting some fluids pumped in now and some meds that will actually stay put, so praying she feels better later today and for the upcoming couple days at home. Sending our love to everyone. Please keep her in your prayers
Well Chloe's first week of radiation is behind us. 5 more to go. She had chemo simultaneously this week. Her spirits are good, we hear the next week should a good one! Praying that's the case!! We are eternally grateful for all of you.
Captain Salty, you're a sneaky one! You two crack me up Thank You so very much
