Say Checkmate to Crohns and Colitis
My name is Justin Mirigliani. I live in Cherry Hill, NJ. In 2002 I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. At that time I was in a life or death struggle with UC. My doctor at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia saved my life, at that time, and despite having to live taking 30 pills a day, I was having a good life. In 2015, my doctor saved my life again when he discovered that I had a severely precancerous condition called high grade dysplasia. Due to the dysplasia I had to have my entire large intestine removed and now I live life with an ileostomy bag. Because of what I have been through, I started a charity called Checkmates Charitable Association. The prime goal of Checkmates is to raise money and awareness in the fight against Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Since we began we have been able to present Jefferson Hospital's Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology with close to $15,000. This money is used by this department to fund research and to purchase new life-saving equipment. In order for us to raise money we hold different events throughout the year. Our signature event is a yearly charity hockey game with the Philadelphia Flyers Alumni. Money raised goes to covering the cost of running these events and any money over and above that goes to Jefferson Hospital. We meet with Jefferson representatives each June to present them with our donation. I have two little girls who are at a 30% higher chance of contracting Inflammatory Bowel Disease. I want to help knock this disease out now, before they have to go through what I did. By supporting Jefferson's efforts, I hope the cure will be found soon! Please consider helping us. Thank You!+ Read More
Please support Checkmates so we can send kids who are sick with Crohn's and Colitis to Camp Oasis! Camp Oasis is a camp where these sick kids can have fun and forget about Inflammatory Bowel Disease! We need your help!!!!
The video link below is what the last six months of my life were like. Please help me raise money to end Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease. The money goes to Jefferson Hospital's Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and also Englewood Hospital's Surgical/Oncology Center. Englewood is in Northern NJ and is a division of Mt. Sinai Hospital in NY. Please watch and share my video!
Surgery is just one week away. Please help me eradicate this evil disease before anyone else finds themselves in the position I am in. As I lie on that operating table I will be strengthened by the knowledge that I have support in this fight! Know that not a penny of the donations go to me. They go to Jefferson Hospital of Philadelphia's department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. They do research in the fight to end Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease. Please join me in the fight!!! Thank YOU!!!
