Casey's Journey - Thyroid Cancer

On July 11th, 2016, Manny & Taya Poveda had to tell their beautiful 15 year old daughter, Casey, news no parent would ever want to have to tell their child. Manny and Taya told Casey that her biopsy results came back and she was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer or medical term, Papillary Carcinoma. Casey is a Sophmore in High School and has her whole life ahead of her.
The type of Thyroid cancer Casey has been diagnosed with is the most common form of cancer and has a wesur we surevival rate of 80% based on the past 10 years of treated cases. In most of these cases, the tumors below 1.5 cm had the best outcome, More than 50% of cases spread to the lymph nodes with tumors above 1.5cm in size. Casey's tumor is 1.88cm in size and will be having a more in depth scan on August 4th, 2016 to see if it has spread to the lymph nodes and then surgery will be scheduled hopefully for the week after.
This family believes all things that happen in life are a part of God's great plan. They found this tumor while trying to determine why Casey has been having extremely high blood pressure that caused her pulmonary valve in her heart to leak. They firmly believe God guided them to the tumor it was no accident. God is still on his throne and this journey will all be for his glory! The Poveda's have put their trust in Jesus and know that no matter how hard it is going to be, he will bring them through this and it will only make them stronger.
The Poveda's have spent many years being heavily involved in church and helping others in any way that they can. Taya resigned from her job of 5 years in June to start a new one in July that was close to home before Casey was diagnosed. Taya's job has been put on hold so that she can care for her daughter through this difficult time.
The Poveda's have Casey covered under insurance, however, medical expenses, traveling downtown every week, parking, medications and special food Casey will need (Low iodine diet)will be a heavy burden to bear with only one income for this family.
Although we wish we could take the cancer away, we can help make it easier for them. When times are tough we are called to help our brothers and sisters in Christ. So we ask first and foremost if you can please pray for the Poveda Family. Especially Casey during this journey. If you feel lead to make a donation towards assisting them with the upcoming expenses, it would be very much appreciated. Never did they think something like this would happen to them but now we can show them the love and support they have showed so many others that have walked into their lives.
