Lance Corporal Carlos SegoviaLopez
My son, brother to his sisters, my Marine, a leader to the community and inspiration to all was taken from us on the night of Friday, September 16 2016 by a horrendous crime. In hopes of giving my son the respect he deserves. I am asking the community to assist me in doing so. Your generous donations will help me insure that my son, the Marine is properly laid to rest. Your kindness will also provide me and my family to cover any unforseen expenses. Words can not express on how grateful I am for your support.
Unfortunately the military stipend will not cover all of the expenses incurred by the family. Carlos is well loved, and the family would like to invite all who want to come pay their respects. The family is expecting 700-1,000 people at the service. Considering 500 people showed up to the vigil, 1,000 people does not seem to be an exaggeration. I ushered people into the room to see Carlos over the past few days and I personally encountered over 200 people who came to visit!
Yes, every Marine is ensured a paid funeral and the USMC will cover the expense. This funeral is receiving high media coverage due to his unjust murder and hundreds are expected to attend. therefore; this high volume of support will incur more unexpected expenses which otherwise would not have been anticipated. We bury our own...God bless America...Semper Fidelis!
A Casuality Assistance Representative (CAR) has been assigned to the family for the purpose of helping the family through these terrible times and to provide assistance in obtaining LCpl Segovia-Lopez's death benefits. The Marine Corps (nor any branch) does not pay for the funerals, what they do provide is a "death gratuity" to help famliy meet immediate expenses. The "death gratuity" is in addition to any pay due, pay for unused leave, and other allowances and the service members Life Insurance. Though the Department of Defense and the Veterans Administration assist with many of the expenses his family will incur, it does not cover them all. Sandra, if you read this, it was an honor to be with you and your family tonight, and to be part of rendering honors to your son. Carlos will live on in the hearts, minds and bodies of many.
http://militarypay.defense.gov/Benefits/Death-Gratuity/ http://www.dfas.mil/militarymembers/paydeductions/sgli.html This is what his family is entitled to in addition to any unpaid pay and leave time. This was explained to the family by his Casualty Assistance Calls Officer (CACO) at the time he met the family.
Hasta luego, mi hermano. Siempre estarás en mi corazón. Yo siempre recordaremos su amabilidad y amistad.
Barbery by field, you're beautiful. What a generous donation, I'm crying. Wished everyone could contribute the way you have. You are a god send and an angel.
From one US military mom to another my deepest condolences to the family. May you find comfort in your memories. Thank you for your service...RIP
Sending lots of prayers and hugs to this young mans familia. Thank you Carlos for your service, may you Rest In Peace and your familia get the help they need.
Ms. Lopez, please accept my heartfelt condolences. Carlos was a tribute to your great love and ability. Please, tell Coach Pete that Grandma Susan sent her best wishes. Be well and be comforted. Just wanted to be certain that you were aware of the Tilt crowdfunding for Carlos. I was confused about which to donate to. What would your preference be? Your family and friends will be in my prayers.
The Marine will take care of all expenses, and will give your Marine a proper military burial. Contact his command or the local recruiter. His life insurance should also be a huge help. Either way, I will donate for a fallen brother and share as well.
