If you've ever met my mom, you have witnessed her loving soul, genuine smile, and caring heart. From being a volunteer at her hospital, planning and participating in community events, and attending Zumba with a local senior group, she has always been generous and productive with her time. Those who needed help knew they could count on her, especially for emotional support as she truly embodies her name: Consuelo (consolation/comfort).
Sadly, On December 4, 2016, our mamá Chelo suffered an ischemic stroke (a blockage that occurred in the middle cerebral artery of her brain). She was transferred to USC Keck Hospital in Los Angeles and stayed in the Neuroscience ICU for two weeks. The stroke was so severe that it left mom with:
· apraxia (brain damage that affects ability to move),
· aphasia (not being able to speak),
· dysphagia (difficulty swallowing).
The stroke also left mom unable to move the entire right side of her body and is no longer able to stand or walk. Given her delicate condition, our dear mama is in need of 24-hour care.
We are humbly reaching out to our family, friends, and colleagues to help us cover the costs of a caregiver for mom, who throughout her life has cared and helped so many.
It will cost $1,760 a month to provide mom with the care she needs, that’s $21,120/year. Thus, we need your support now more than ever and hope that you can help us reach our goal of 10K to roughly cover half of mom’s caring expenses during the first year of our new life.
Any amount would be greatly appreciated.
With much appreciation,
Carlos and Lily
