Filipino Nurse Battle Against Terminal Cancer

Adenosquamous metastatic cervical cancer is like a thief in the night. It’s trying to steal the life of my sister, Lorela. She’s the first born daughter in our family, hence she’s blessed the lovely mix of my father and mother’s name LORenzo and NovELA. She’s intelligent, talented and educated. She worked as a DJ back in our home city, Iloilo in the Philippines back in the 1990’s. She was Lovely Laura in the jazz station DYRJ, DJ Kim in Z-100 and DJ Alex in DYMB. She’s also a Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduate and was able to migrate in the US last August 2017. However, her American dream has not come into fruition because she got diagnosed with this horrible disease last November 2018. She underwent so much ordeal battling this illness. Multiple hospitalizations, surgeries and eventually, chemotherapy. Her doctor told her that it’s only palliative and no longer curative therapy. After two and a half months of chemotherapy, she decided to go back home to the Philippines to spend time with family and loved ones. She no longer have health insurance and the cost of pain medication and emergent medical fees are eating up what little savings our family has. Her fentanyl patch is $200 every month, the parenteral nutrition costs $100/day (she can no longer tolerate eating by mouth, she vomits any food she eats) and her last hospital bill to replace the right ureter stent was more than $3,000.
