I'm Going to Harvard!

Who Am I?
My name is Courtney Woods and I aspire to earn a Ph.D. in social policy to serve as a professor, community organizer, and social justice torch-bearer.  I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science, with a Community Governance and Advocacy Concentration and Political Science Cognate, and Philosophy and Law Minor from Michigan State University in May 2015.
During my undergraduate experience at MSU, I developed a passion for community service and outreach, which motivated me to volunteer frequently in the greater Lansing area. As a program assistant with TRIO Student Support Services, I was responsible for writing grants to financially assist students studying abroad and mentoring students in their personal development. As a legislative intern in U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow's Office, and later with the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Judiciary, I conducted legislative research in health, education, and criminal justice policy.

The Opportunity of a Lifetime
Now, I have been offered the opportunity to serve the Harvard University Center for Public Interest Careers as a program fellow. As a program fellow, I will continue strengthening my skills in student support and advocacy, by collaborating with government agencies and non-profit organizations to secure internships and fellowships for graduate and undergraduate students. This opportunity will allow me to develop my knowledge base and professional network as I prepare for graduate school in fall 2016.
The offer to represent Harvard University as a professional is a phenomenal and rare opportunity for a recent graduate, especially a low-income, first generation TRIO student, like myself. This is what I have been praying for and working diligently to achieve.

Why I Need Help
Please help me gather the funds needed to relocate to Cambridge, MA. The cost of living is far higher, and I have to pay a balance of first month's rent and security deposit, in addition to paying a partial rate of rent for my place in East Lansing, MI. I will also need to pay for the cost of travel and groceries for the first month of work before I earn my first paycheck.
As a missionary of the Josephine Brown Women's Missionary Society, I believe that miracles happen with faith and perseverance. I understand that you may not be able to give as much as you would like, but every penny means something to me. No amount is too small or insignificant. I appreciate your willingness to help.
