TALKING ABOUT RACE AND RACISM IS UNCOMFORTABLE. LET'S TALK!
CURE - The Coalition for Undoing Racism through Education is a volunteer, community advocacy group that works to bring education to Larchmont and Mamaroneck on the subject of institutional and systemic racism in our community and our country. Our team is inspired by the need to create a more equitable world now and for our kids’ future. www.learnwithcure.com
CURE consists of community stakeholders in Larchmont and Mamaroneck such as parents, students, educators, houses of worship and local non-profits. In our first year, we have experienced tremendous organization growth:
- Our core members have grown and we now have over 600 community members following our work.
- Our leadership team has grown to 13.
- We have hosted 10 events reaching over 450 of attendees.
View details of our list of 2018-2019 events here.
- We raised over $6,000 to lead these events. The event summary costs were:
* CURE brought the Epic Theatre to The Jump Start Program at Mamaroneck High
* Along with LAC, we hosted a viewing of 13th, the documentary with guest speaker, Dr. Baz Dreisinger of Incarceration Nations/ John Jay Professor and founder of the prison to college pipeline at John Jay
* CURE offered 3 Small facilitated workshops around films, books and podcasts / CURE Intimate Gatherings
* CURE partnered with The Larch/Mamk Human Rights Committee for the MLK Day Commemoration inviting speakers, Dr. Chenjerai Kumanyika and John Beiwen of Duke University to discuss their podcast, Seeing White , Scene on Radio about race in America.
- We recently partnered with the Larchmont Avenue Church as a host site for events
- We are just now finalizing a fiscal sponsorship relationship that will allow us to provide tax deductible receipts for your support.
Now we need to raise $10,000 to support our upcoming 2019-2020 season of events!
Where does your money go when you make a donation to CURE?
Our events come in the form of large and small group gatherings and are always guided by facilitators or experts who study and advocate around topics related to institutional racism. Consider this:
In 2018-2019, we hosted two large public events with an average cost of $3,500.
The eight smaller events and programs that we led cost between $200 and $1,000 each.
Our professional speakers and facilitators are not getting wealthy by standing up for social justice causes but they do get paid for their time and their incredible skills!
The bottom line: it costs money to bring carefully curated and professional led conversations to our community. This is why we need your financial support!
All Go Fund Me money is used to pay directly for event related fees. These include:
Speaker fees
Facilitator fees
Printing costs
Promotions
What is in the works for 2019-2020?
We are working on the events related to the following topics:
- Implicit Bias workshops: programs that work to discuss how and why race became a social construct in which we are still trapped in today.
- Speakers on the topic of Domestic Worker's Rights
- Conversations and workshops that will help parents learn how to discuss race and racism with our kids.
- Teaming up with The Larch/Mamk Human Rights committee for the MLK Commemoration to discuss reimagining the dream of social justice and ending mass incarceration.
