CREATE A LOOP

Donation protected

Thank you for all who've supported the development of LOOP! We reach our first goal and raised over $1,000 when we first started 10 months ago! I'm pleased to say that we had some major donors do matches and we raised over $5,000 for our programs!!

We're currently raising $10,000 to provide 21st Century programs and exposures to more youth living North of Delmar. With $5,000 we were able to serve 10 kids since March and launch a partnership with a local high school.

With $10,000 we can teach 20 students to code and bring our students vision to life by turning their classroom into a Design Lab.

Please consider becoming a monthly donor for $25 or more to help us continue to bridge the gap and close the divide!

OVERVIEW:

LOOP addresses the non-cognitive factors in youth from low-income communities by helping them to develop academic mindsets and perseverance. Our method combines mentorship with interactive learning opportunities. Participants are challenged to apply what they learn by collaborating on projects and solving problems together.

Furthermore, each program and experience offered through LOOP challenges students to grow artistically. Whether they’re coding, building design labs, or traveling, students utilize their artistic and creative minds to complete projects.

Our current target area is the Delmar Divide. We want to provide youth living North of Delmar with the resources and opportunities that many youth living South of Delmar currently recieve.

OUR CURRENT PROGRAMS:

At LOOP we believe that though we work with youth from low-income communities, they're NEEDED not needy. Every program is designed to show them just how needed they are and to show people on the outside how with a little opportunity our kids can change the world!

Design Lab Internship:
This program teaches high school youth to use the design thinking method to redesign spaces in their school. Our goals with this internship is to:

A.) Provide an interactive learning experience that helps to improve our interns academic mindsets, behaviors, problem-solving skills, and pro-social skills

B.)  Give our interns ownership within their communities and shared spaces.

C.) To provide a community with a space where youth are able to receive 21st century skills or new exposures.

Already we've seen so much change in our students! They were once shy and disconnected but now they're ALIVE and confident in their ability to change their enviornment! They're vision is to create a Space themed lab that inspires math, art, reading, and science (aka MARS).

They also want to incorperate elements of Black Culture and Black Art! For example, one student (who's an incredible artist) is designing Black Art Characters who will be dressed in a space suit!

Our students have expressed that they want this to be a space where they can: a.) resolve conflicts b.) creatively express themselves, c.) study and receive mentorship,  d.) share ideas and innovative concepts, and e.) have philosophical discussions about life, culture, education, and the future.

We are raising $5,000 to help these students redesign their classroom and bring their ideas to life!

The following video explains the design thinking framework:

Code Class: This program provides 3rd-6th graders how to build computers and code. Coding is the new "union card", you can go anywhere in the world and find a job. Through this program we're seeing our students become aware of their genius and find hope for their futures.  We're currently raising $5,000 to purchase 20 new computers. Watch the video below to see an example of how simple Kano Computers are to build!
