Central Florida Focus
The Central Florida Focus is an independent student media outlet dedicated to covering issues important to the University of Central Florida and its community.
We aim to empower writers with the skills to successfully survive in the world of journalism.
We provide training, professional development and a sense of community to every person who helps bring the Focus to life.
Our goal is to start something that will be here long after we've graduated.
We thank each and every one of you for donating to a cause so close to our hearts and the heart of the Central Florida community. We appreciate the time you've spent reading about our cause and thank you for doing whatever you can to help to make the dream of the Central Florida Focus a reality.
This past year has been a wild and wonderful ride. We've published more than 400 pieces of content and had more than 75 contributing writers and staffers.
We've had an entire generation of staffers graduate and move into the "real world."
Our writers have gone on to work at organizations such as the Orlando Sentinel, The Jewish Times and more! In addition, Focus clips count toward the portfolio requirements for journalism students at UCF.
We're working toward becoming a nonprofit, so future donations will go toward funding that goal. This, in turn, will help us compensate our writers and staffers for all the hard work they put into this organization every single day.
Can't wait to share with you all what's coming in year 2!
In an effort to ship our donors their rewards as quickly as possible, we have decided to only reward those who donated before Nov. 1, 2016.
Thank you all for your continued support!
We have some great updates for you! The Focus is now an incorporated organization! The CFF is a limited liability corporation, which we are hoping to get B Corp. certified within the next two years.
Certified B. Corps are dedicated to helping others and benefiting their communities.
The CFF hopes to fulfill this promise by creating a scholarship fund for UCF Nicolson School of Communication students.
We have spoken to our site provider and they have agreed to lower the cost of our site to $1,500 — which is amazing.
However, we still need your help. We need to pay for the site, but also legal fees and other costs associated with starting a business.
Please share this news to help the CFF!
