Conie's Labyrinth Visions & Growth

Greetings!

I'm raising money to jumpstart my labyrinth facilitation-creative placemaking-community art project work.

Labyrinths have been part of my spiritual practice since experiencing one during a retreat in college.  Walking or tracing one has helped me feel more calm and at peace, get a sense of clarity and confidence, as well as provide an opportunity for reflection and creativity.

In the last five years I have felt a strong impulse to create temporary labyrinths on once flourishing lots to help folks grieve losses and imagine new possibilities.  This winter I was invited to install a snow labyrinth for an outdoor event.  The installation had to adjust due to unseasonably warm weather.  But this ended up being a good thing.  As I learned more about the event organizers and their work I realized I could redesigned the labyrinth to engage and gather community concerns and desires.

This lead me to propose a program session for The Labyrinth Society's annual meeting.  It was accepted and requires me to attend this year conference in Houston, TX in November.  Yay!

Except ... I recently made a decision to work one part-time job and support myself with various freelance gigs.* This change is liberating and scary, as I feel uncertain about my ability to cover the costs of registration, travel, lodging, and membership ($1000) without digging into my savings.

Having this proposal accepted helped me realize a few things.  One is that I should really go through Labyrinth facilitator training ($3000 includes travel and lodging and planned for sometime in 2017).  I have wanted to do this for a while, but the time seems ripe now.  Another is I'd like to package these creative placemaking labyrinths for others to rent.  This requires a substantial upfront cost for crowd control stanchions that can be used outdoors (and probably a way to transport them?).

The life season I am in is about sharing forward the tools, skills, and abilities that have gifted me with a heart that is open and committed to listening and accepting people where they are, making space for voices to be heard, and helping them express their concerns, pains, and desires.  Most of the time I do this with group singing and movement, but the labyrinth is for the times for quieter individual reflection.

Thank you so much for listening to my story and considering a gift of support.  I welcome opportunities to share this work for hire with you and look forward to hearing where you may like to be part of it.

Blessings!  Conie
