Butter's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
San Antonio tattoo artist, David De La O, better known to his friends and clients as "Butter", was a victim of a hit and run driver in the early morning hours of Friday, May 8th. Butter was riding his bicycle home after a long day at work when a dark colored SUV-type vehicle went through an intersection and stuck him. The driver of the vehicle continued through the intersection, not bothering to stop and render aide after striking David. David was found on the road by a fellow tattoo artist, who coincidentally was leaving work for the day. He was taken to a nearby hospital. David's injuries were severe. Among the injuries he sustained: shattered bones in the bridge of his nose, a fracture of the upper maxillofacial bone (just above the lip and below the nose), teeth being dislodged from his jaw, and a hematoma requiring a drainage tube. In addition to these major injuries, he suffered scrapes, cuts and bruises on several places on his body.

Butter is an award winning tattoo artist with roots in San Antonio. Anyone who knows him knows the genuine and kind spirit he has. He will give you the shirt off his back and his last bite of food if you needed it. His talent for storytelling and good humor are among his many charming characteristics. If you have been fortunate enough to have received a piece of his art by way of tattoo or a hand drawn masterpiece count yourself blessed.

Butter earns his living working day-in and day-out at Flesh Electric, the studio he co-owns with fellow artists, Kep Foe and Jake Valdez. You can find him at all hours, day or night, putting beauty into the world through his amazing artistic skills. Tattooing is David's livelihood. This incident will put David out of commission for several weeks. Without being able to tattoo daily, David's income will be significantly reduced. That, coupled with what will sure to be significant medical bills will put a tremendous financial stress on David. If you feel led to do so, please consider donating what you can to help reduce this burden. Give what you can, and remember, giving doesn't have to be in the form of money. As David would say "Spread love and peace, kids".
