Husband.  Dad.  Son. Brother. Uncle. Friend.  Coach.  Instructor.  Teammate.  Competitor.  Second Dad.

These are just a few titles that Bryan Fuss carries.  Soon, “Cancer survivor” will be added to this long list...

Bryan Fuss was diagnosed with Colon Cancer on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.  Many of us are still in shock.  Bryan and his family have already moved on from shock and are already facing off against this reality.

So many of us have already posed the questions of “how can i/we help?  What can we do?”

This GoFundMe page was created in response to the overwhelming outpouring of calls, texts, and inquiries to Bryan and his family from the many family members, friends, former players, teammates, and students who have been impacted by Bryan over the years.

This is a simple and convenient way give back to a man who has given so much to so many of us.  So much of Bryan’s life evolves around his family and their passion for the sport of hockey!  The hockey community has brought so many of us together and it continues to tie so many of us together, in a way that seems to have no boundaries.

Please consider contributing to Bryan’s GoFundMe page to help support the Fuss family by easing in some small or large way the financial burden that unfortunately becomes the main source of fear for so many families battling Cancer.

Here is Bryan's Story...

Bryan went to the emergency room on Friday, January 13, 2017 after experiencing flu-like symptoms and abdominal pain for a few days. He expected to simply rehydrate, receive antibiotics and have some tests done to figure out what was going on. He was admitted and spent the next several days in the hospital. On Monday, January 16th, Bryan and his wife Brooke, received the diagnosis: Bryan had colon cancer.

Bryan returned home on Tuesday, January 17th with orders from his doctor to build back his strength and prepare for his next step in his battle to beat cancer!  At this time, he is at home, focusing on a strict diet and rest. On Tuesday, January 24th, Bryan and Brooke will be meeting with the surgeon to discuss surgery to remove a portion of Bryan’s colon and stomach. There are more questions than answers at this point, but more will be learned after his surgery is completed.

Bryan, as you would expect, is in good spirits and heeding his doctor’s advice to get rest, get healthy and prepare for surgery and subsequent recovery.

Right now, Bryan and Brooke are happy to have their family together. Their eldest son, Sam (19), returned home from Cedar Rapids earlier this week and will be home until Monday, January 23rd. Jack (15) is home, along with Bryan’s parents who will be staying until sometime after his surgery.

A CaringBridge page was set up to provide  updates on his progress.

It is our hope that his page will also be a place where people can offer encouragement, messages of care, and share how Bryan and his family have touched many of our lives in a positive and meaningful way.

Since receiving his diagnosis, many of Bryan’s friends and family have reached out to offer help and support. The Fuss’ are grateful for all the prayers, messages of encouragement and offers to help that they have received. As we learn more about Bryan’s diagnosis and plan for treatment, there will be a clearer picture of the assistance that they will need. We will also be linking a few websites to the “Ways to Help” tab on his CaringBridge page. These websites will aid in organizing meals and financial support for the Fuss family.

Bryan and Brooke are grateful and humbled by the tremendous outpouring of support. Bryan’s primary goal right now is to preserve his energy in preparation for surgery.

If you have questions or would like to reach out to Bryan, please feel free to do so.  A few of his friends have volunteered to help with organizing assistance and managing communication. Their names are provided below. Please feel free to reach out to them as needed.
