Everyone knows someone with Cancer, each story unique and filled with hope. Today we feel an urgent need to share Brenda’s story, give her the strength and support to continue her battle to fight against this life threatening disease.
Brenda Mulkeen Mikolajczyk is a friend, sister, aunt and mom. She is pictured above with her very special, loving son Alex.
Bren was diagnosed with stage 4 Colon Cancer in October of 2013, and unfortunately it has metastasized since to her lungs and most recently her spine.
She has gone through chemo, radiation and chemo again while being a rock through this whole horrible ordeal. She has taken on each difficult treatment with dignity, hope and strength.
Now she is at a point where she is not able to get radiation and chemo doesn’t seem to work on the type of mutated gene that is devastating her body.
BUT, just last week she enrolled in a clinical trial in Tennessee that has shown great promise for cancer patients by using immunotherapy, utilizing the body’s own immune system to help fight the cancer. That is great news as immunotherapy is a very active area of cancer research and is showing great promise and may be able to take Brenda to the next level of her fight.
As expected, this treatment is not fully covered by insurance. We have set up this GoFundMe page to ask for your financial support to help our friend continue to battle this disease without the extra worry of medical bills.
