The Kids Café is a program presented by the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central WI Baraboo/Sauk Co in collaboration with Second Harvest Food Bank. The program is designed to provide hot nutritious meals to all members of the Boys & Girls Club.

Baraboo is designated as a "food desert" in Sauk County, which means that fresh, nutritious foods are not readily available to our community members. Additionally, 63% of our club members currently receive Free/Reduced lunch at school. Our data indicates that many of our members do not eat a healthy evening and will not have another meal until they return to school the next day. This partnership with Second Harvest, along with other community members have joined forces to help combat this growing problem. Baraboo Area United Fund and a grant from the Big Dig allowed the club to create a new refurbished kitchen space with will allow our trained chefs to prepare healthy hot meals as well as teach cooking classes and healthy lifestyle choices to our members on a daily basis.
The Clubs mission is to "enable all youth, especially those who need us the most, to become responsible, caring and respectable citizens" and our Kids Café will play a large part in the success of our members, their families and our community.
Our Kitchen is open and operational; however, we still need a few major pieces of equipment. We need a Commercial Dishwasher and a large commercial Refrigerator, in addition to these initial Investments we also estimate the cost of the program to be approx. 48,000 - 52,000 per year for our club. This included a dedicated cook part time position as well as food costs for all members. It is more that we originally budgeted for, we appreciate any support from the community.
