Jamal invited the woman in to talk. She replayed her questions for him and explained how long she had tried to find answers…

For nearly three hours, Jamal and Amina talked through all she had wondered about Jesus. He concluded their time together by giving her the Bible he had used to answer many of her questions…

At home, Amina hid her treasures, reading them only when she knew others in the family would not discover her secret life. Studying the New Testament one night, she realized that the route of Jesus’ travels likely had taken Him right through her village…

The real-life drama of Jesus’ time on earth riveted Amina, and several weeks after meeting Jamal, her own journey brought her to take the step of faith of becoming a Jesus follower.

Consuming the Very Words of Life

Houmam* was an Imam when he was in Islam. He could recite the entire Koran by memory.

A few days ago, I asked Houmam how he got his first Bible and how he felt about having one. He told me that after his conversion to Christianity his good friend in his home country gave him a Bible. It was in his own language. The friend showed him that the Bible has two parts, the Old Testament and the New Testament. He introduced him to 1 Corinthians 13 which was the first important passage Houmam read in his Bible. Then he read Matthew 5:6-7, which says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy."

Houmam said he was a little surprised by his new book, the Bible because he actually understood it. It was the first time he could remember reading a book that he understood so well. He was, of course used to the Koran which is written in Arabic and is difficult to understand. In fact, Amir could quote the entire Koran but understood much less of it than he now understands God’s true and holy Word.

As he read his Bible, he was delighted to learn about and really begin to comprehend God’s love and forgiveness. He said that the words he read touched his heart and spirit and that they began to change him internally.

When Houmam had to flee his home country, he brought with him the Bible his friend had given him. He carried it with him in his backpack and read it often as he journeyed from his home country to Germany which took many months. The words in the Bible gave him hope and he clung to them as if they were a best friend to him. He has told me before that when he arrives home each evening that he immediately grabs his Bible and begins reading. He longs for the spiritual nourishment and for the companionship he finds as he holds his Bible and reads it. It is to him as if he is consuming the very words of life. -After all, this is indeed what is happening for him.

Aabid says, "Last year I was tormented by a single question from my child. He asked me, 'Daddy, can you show me a single chapter in the Holy Quran which our prophet assured us of going to the kingdom of God?'
I sweated to look for an alternative soft landing answer but it is simply not there! Now I made up my mind to serve God through Jesus Christ. Kindly pray for me and teach me the Bible to help me and my family to know this Jesus"

20,000 Bibles gone in less than a year!
In less than twelve months they were completely out of stock—20,000 special edition New Testaments for Palestinian Orthodox believers. For many families, this Bible is the first one they have personally owned. A key church leader said about this project: “We should have done this 2,000 years ago.”
And all right it was. There was a huge demand for the New Testaments. Within a year all 20,000 copies had been given out to Palestinian Christian families, most of them on the West Bank, Gaza and Israel.
The response was overwhelming. “People are calling me daily. ‘I never dreamt that I would have my own bible,’ one man said.” Other Christians are reaching out to Nashat from Jordan, Qatar, and even the United States to thank his organization for printing the Bible...
“One particular encounter with a Christian who received one of these 20,000 bibles had a great impact on Nashat Filmon. “One morning we were visiting the Jenin area and I saw an old lady reading her new Bible in the first sunlight, sitting in the entrance of her house. An hour later, when we returned, she still was there; she seemed not to have moved at all. And she was still reading in the Word, in broad daylight. She had been reading for a full hour.””
