Brainerd Needs a Pet Store

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Amanda and I'm trying to raise the funds to open my own pet store in the Brainerd Lakes Area. You might know me from the five years I worked at the (now defunct) pet store in Brainerd (September 2008 - May 2013), or from the rescue work I used to do from my own home (Silver Dragon Pets). I have worked hard to build and maintain a strong, positive reputation in the animal fields, having been involved in rescue and animal-related work most of my life. I love talking to people about their pets, giving advice, sharing my experience, and helping pet owners and their furry friends.

My plan is to create a new pet store that is better than the rest. I want a store that makes you say "Wow! This is how it should be done!" when you walk in the doors. I'm talking about a well lit, welcoming environment, clean cages, healthy animals, and quality products that people want for a price they can afford.

The current plan includes stocking food, toys and accessories for cats and dogs, everything you need to care for mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, and chinchillas, in addition to basic supplies for fish and reptiles, and some bird foods. I want to sell small animals (mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, and chinchillas), fish (fresh, brackish, and salt water), and some limited reptiles (basically beginner care species). All live animals will be kept in appropriate cages complete with environmental enrichment - the way they should be kept to keep them happy and healthy.

Like my predecessor's store, I would also like to offer space for local unwanted litters of kittens to be surrendered and put up for adoption - but with a bit of a twist. I also want to host a spay/neuter clinic, and/or partner with an area veterinary clinic to offer spay surgery for free or a reduced cost for people surrendering a litter. I want to partner with local animal rescues to display their (fully vetted) adoptable cats to help promote adoptions.

I believe in buying local, and will seek out quality products made right here in Minnesota whenever possible.

I'm planning a Treat of the Month and a Toy of the Month Club for dogs, where a package of treats, or a toy is mailed to club members every month to give our furry friends some variety.

I want to open a pet store that is fun, clean, community oriented and promotes responsible pet guardianship. I hope to create a store that will be a loved part of Brainerd for many years to come.

Will you help me build this dream? My husband and I have a business plan written up, have our LLC and MN and Federal tax numbers, and are starting to make connections with distributors, but it looks like I am going to need a bare minimum of $150,000 to start with.  Of course with $300,000 we could do much more.  If we get more than we are asking for, I will add new rewards and tell you about another big plan in the making for this store!

Thank you in advance for reading my proposal and donating to help kick start this business!  Keep up on our progress by visiting our webpage - http://beyondpets.weebly.com

*A note about the reward levels for this campaign - all donations of $100 or more will be added to our e-mailing list to receive exclusive coupons and special deals.
