Computer Class in Deusa
Donation protected
Bill and I (Orna) are a married couple living and working in the Silicon Valley. We are joining a medical expedition to the Everest Base Camp and to the Kal-apatar. On the route, we are volunteering in a few remote villages. Our mission ( not being doctors, but IT experts) is to build a computer class that will serve a group of 20 students.
Deusa is a remote village in the Himalayas, off route to the Everest. Its small population of under 10,000 lives with no internet and very difficult accessibility to education, and the surrounding world. Heavily impacted by the earthquake and having no funding - it is an extremely poor location - we decided to build a computer class, windows based, and create a Local Area Network (LAN) to enable communication between the students and the teachers.
The goal is to boost their own employability with exposure to English, Computer Science disciplines, and prepare the students and teachers to the concept of file sharing, internet, search.
With your generous donations we will buy and ship:
* 20 laptops to build the class (One laptop is around 300-400 - we need a CD reader due to remoteness, no ability to connect to any internet).
* Educational SW to teach science, math and English (estimated at $1000 for a large variety of them in Nepalese)
* A teacher salary for 2 years. (A teacher makes $100 a month).
Changing the world a student at a time is our mission. We are leaving next year, and need your donation by December. We will be extremely thankful and will acknowledge by name each and every contributor.
Today, the students "learn how to use a mouse, and click"; they don't know English, thus cannot tap to the opportunities closer to the Everest. Help us bring these laptops and the education they provide to Deusa. We will personally carry the laptops, with our guides and set them up, train the village teachers and provide the funds for 2 years. Come join us and be part of this incredible adventure!
