Bali Agung Fund - Bali Travel Group

Donation protected
In August 2017, Mt Agung began giving off signs of erupting. In other words, she woke up from a long dormancy that began in 1964. The 1963 explosions killed hundreds of people and lava flowed kilometres from the crater.

This fundraiser is helping those who are now displaced from their homes, however, if either Agung or Batur erupts, there will be an immediate and on-going need for funds.

We have already been donated over 3,500 respiratory masks by Scavenger Supplies in Mandurah, Perth, and RESA in Moorabbin, Victoria, all of which have arrived. Plus hundreds from many other kind people.

Please find below an detailed account of where money has gone. There is still some filtering through.

Who we are
Bali Travel Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/BaliTravelForum/
was founded in 2015 by Clara McAlaney, author of several books about Bali culture, to help travellers. In that year, three eruptions occurred in Indonesia directly impacting the island, disrupting flights for weeks on end. Clare jumped in to help, connecting with media and airlines, answering questions and calming thousands who were stranded.

Where we're from and what we've done
Clare is the founder of Creatavision Publishing Pty Ltd and lived in Bali five years, before settling in Perth in early 2017. She has over 20 years experience marketing in and for blue-chip organisations. Prior to that, she was a Prosecutor for the Victorian Police Force and has three degrees in law, marketing and business. She joined Rotary International in Beaumaris Victoria in 2009, but left in order to help independently, organisations who could benefit from her social media, writing and publishing skills.

Clare served as Fundraising Director while at Beaumaris Rotary Club, while her husband Bill was Director of Youth Affairs.

Both worked hard to achieve many positive outcomes for projects, such as:

- $1840 for water tanks in Kubu, northern Bali, with members of Bali Travel Group donating funds plus a further $600 donated by Rotary Sunshine Club Frankston after they presented the project to their meeting
- Over $2800 for landslide victims in 2017 - money given directly to PMI and receipted. Much of this money was raised here in Go Fund Me.
- $1585 toward Rotary projects in Bali via Go Fund Me and cash donations

Clare also donated 2.97 million rupiah (approximately $3,020) from the sale of Inspirational WA Women in 2016 from her company + all production and design of the book, (her company, Creatavision Publishing), to empower women in north Bali with solar lamps.

All of these projects have been fully accounted for and indeed, the Inspirational Women project was submitted as part of her 2015-2016 company tax return.

Clare has regularly donated books for fundraising, amounting to well over $10,000 in retail value. In January, she sent 500 books, The Bootongs of Bali, to western Bali for an environmental organisation helping educate to save the precious resources of Bali. They are going to sell these to hotels, and can use 100% of the money for their projects.

Michele Yoga lives in Bali, an Australian, and has worked tirelessly for local disasters with the Red Cross. She is currently in Amed where displaced persons are outside Red Cross care or focus but in desperate need.

There are numerous other projects both have worked on, such as Clare raising $5,500 in 2011 for Rotary Club of Beaumaris. Clare was fundamental in achieving this goal.

Clare can be contacted via her website. Her website and all her books and body of work can be found at www.creatavisionpublishing.com.

Our relationship to the parties raising funds for
Mt Agung is already far-reaching in her effect on Bali, with tens of thousands evacuated, pending what is forecast to be a catastrophic event. As an ex-expat and current expat, both are genuinely concerned regarding getting aid to people quickly.

How the funds will be spent
As per an update a month ago, money has been released to a disaster organisation on the ground in north Bali, Kopernik. There is a full breakdown of where funds have been distributed so far, all to helping those in urgent need.

This event is currently unpredictable. The small amount raised so far barely scratches the surface of what is and will be needed. Via updates, we will keep you informed of where every cent is being spent.

We have an independent Certified Practicing Accountant who is conducting bookkeeping of all incoming funds, Go Fund Me fees (5%) and international transfer fees. All receipts have and will be retained.

How you intend to get the funds to those in need
UPDATE: My apologies for not copying and pasting the update I posted some time ago also here.

Both Clare and Michele work full-time and are dedicating all their time now to the people of Bali and making sure they are looked after in their darkest hour.

Thank you for all your help so far.
