In 2015, during Memorial Day Weekend in Washington, DC, my mother, my best friend, my coach and my biggest fan became my very own angel. Looking at your mom slumped over from a fatal shot to the head while the two of us were attending a community BBQ just isn't right. That day would be the last time that she could cheer for me at my games, get on me about homework, enjoy our times shopping or just living and enjoying life in our community. Mentally its been tough but I'm not going to let it get the best of me. The same year she was killed, I tried to stay busy. I joined the Student Ambassadors at my school and visited another country to support children in an orphanage...I knew that if I didn't have the love and support of my grandmother, that could have easily been me. Even when I think about the funeral I often say, was it hard for me to sing 3 songs at my mom's funeral? Of course it was. But I'm strong and if you knew my mom, she wouldn't have it any other way. My mom had a big personality but most importantly, she believed in my strength, my athletic ability and my ability to work hard in school. She had big goals and dreams for me and I am so proud to say that I have been accepted into Bishop McNamara High School to start working on those goals and turning those dreams into reality this fall. I know that her heart and soul is full of joy, that her one and only son is entering into a prestigous private school as a STUDENT ATHLETE who is ready to work hard towards graduating in the Class of 2021 and attending a Division I College of my choice. I know that I can't do this without my village of support. I have to be honest with myself and trust that God has a plan for me and in the plan is an opportunity that will change my life. The tuition for McNamara is $15,000 per year and I was introduced to the school after the financial aid deadline. I pray that with the help of my grandmother, teachers, coaches, family and friends we can pull together to make this dream a reality. I truly need your help to start Bishop McNamara in August. It's not easy asking but if you feel like planting a seed that will support my growth and development, I will be forever grateful. No donation is too small. I appreciate each one.
