Austin's School Board Run Fund

My name is Austin Harig, I am an 18 year old student over at Hutchinson Central Technical High School in Buffalo, NY. I am campaigning for the seat of Park District School Board in the City of Buffalo against the incumbant Carl Paladino. Though I respect Mr.Paladino, it is my belief that someone who is a developer and has monetary interests in furthering charter schools cannot sit on the school board of a public school board without there being a huge conflict of interest. I've actually been to the Buffalo Public Schools for the better part of my life and only have the best interests of the kids going to these schools just like me in mind. I don't want to see the Buffalo Schools end up like the schools of places like Chicago, where Charter Schools are the only option and kids who can't go to them are disadvantaged. If elected, I will push for policies that help reduce student/teacher stress and help attendance, more workplace skill oriented programs rather than stressful classes that cause students to loose faith in the system, a fair contract for our teachers, good communication with children and families that have trouble at home and effort to help them, and generally updating the technology of our schools to better compete with suburban districts around Buffalo. Our kids need to be challenged, and they need to be nurtured in order to be successful. From personal experience, I will say these Buffalo Public Schools have some real gems here that could really become successful people in the future if we just nurture and help them the right way here in our public school system.
