Assistance Dog for Rob Carrick

Donation protected
Update 10/23/18 I did find a puppy pictured above his name is Zsasz.  I do still need help covering the costs of raising a puppy as well as veterinary costs . See updates below.

Hi, my name is Rob Carrick and I need your help to get a new assistance dog. I am a assistance dog trainer and have trained my own assistance dog in the past and have helped many others to train their assistance dogs and pet dogs. I have always been willing to help others who could not afford a dog trainer or afford to attend classes. To this day I continue to help people going through financial difficulties with their dogs by volunteering my time at an organization that does just that, helps people who cannot afford dog training but need help with their dogs.

Disabled now and on a fixed income since a car accident in 2012 left me in constant and increasing pain. I had surgery back in 2015 to stabilize my back but I still have pain every day and that pain can cause me difficulty walking, bending over and just getting through the day. One of my biggest fears is falling because of my legs giving out and injuring myself even worse.

An assistance dog would be very helpful by picking things up for me as well as helping me when I'm out with my scooter. Along with many tasks around the house such as getting me an emergency phone or my walker if I fall, helping me with laundry and helping me to keep me moving throughout the day.

I said goodbye to my last assistance dog Jake (pictured below) in March of 2018 after he lost his battle with cancer. Jake was a fun loving and adventurous golden retriever. We were together for over 14 years and his companionship and help has been missed more than I can put into words since his passing.

My dream would be to get another golden retriever puppy and start over with another assistance dog trainee to help me in the future. A fully trained assistance dog can cost as much as $50,000 and take 2-3 years to get. But with me doing all the training it will only be a fraction of the cost and the puppy can start helping me right away while we are doing the training.

I would love to get a new golden puppy and start a new assistance dog adventure, but I can’t do that without your help. If you have dogs or puppies, you know how expensive they can be. Just to get started it could cost over $3000 to cover the cost of a new puppy ($1000-1500), veterinary care ($800-1000), puppy supplies and food ($500+), not to mention assistance dog supplies.

All donations I receive will go directly to the purchase of a puppy, veterinary care and equipment costs.

Thank you so much for anything you can give!
