Eye Surgery for Amanda Gordon

Donation protected
My name is Janna Gordon and in December 2015 my wife Amanda was diagnosed with Keratoconus.  Keratoconus is an eye disease that causes the cornea to become cone shaped and this causes vision to become distorted. It is very painful as it cause the cornea to deteriorate quite rapidly in many cases. ( Check out this link to get a better understanding of what Keratoconus is http://www.keratoconus.com/).
Amanda found out she had this and was prescribed glasses to help her vision. Although she was able to see better with the glasses, her vision quickly (within weeks) began to deteriorate once more and she was prescribed a stronger prescription. After several more appointments with specialists, and trying to use contact lenses to correct some of the rigidity of her cornea, she continues to have major issues with her sight.   On October 28, 2016 she met with a specialist at the Cleveland Eye Clinic. She was told at this appointment that both of her eyes are in the late stages of the disease. The doctor told her that within weeks to a couple of months, she will most likely lose her driving license due to her vision loss. But that is only the first step to her eventually lose sight in one or both eyes. With this terrible news, came a ray of hope however! She was told that she is a prime candidate for a groundbreaking, and newly FDA approved eye procedure called Collagen Cross-linking. With this simple procedure, they will be able to stop the progression of the Keratoconus and reshape her cornea so that she will be able to wear corrective contact lenses and ultimately have increased quality of sight. This was wonderful news! Then she was told that her insurance --in fact, NO insurance agencies-- will not cover this procedure; therefore, we will have to pay out of pocket. Before they will administer this sight saving procedure, the ENTIRE surgery must be paid in full at a whooping $7000. With a bill like that, she thought that she would just take her chances and hope the doctor is wrong about the disease progressing. However, if she does take this extreme gamble, her only hope for saving her eyesight, will be an extremely painful cornea transplant that will cost several thousands of dollars also, with a very lengthy and miserable recovery time. There is also a very high percentage of patients that will suffer a rejection of the new cornea after a couple of years of the transplant. So, the cross- linking procedure is truly an answer to many many prayers. That is where YOU come in. If we are able to raise enough money to pay for the cross-linking procedure, you will be directly responsible for helping save Amanda's sight. It might sound super corney, but it is true. Being 31 years old and being told that you might lose your sight is extremely terrifying. It is not fair to know that a cure is waiting for you but money is standing in your way. Please consider donating any amount affordable to you. We are extremely grateful to anyone that is able to help. Thank you so much!
