Thank you for visiting our GoFundMe page for the Green Family. GoFundMe requires that we put a dollar amount as a goal to reach but because the Greens rarely ask for help and would rather help others in need we are hoping that people will lend their support to help Jenni and Derek with ongoing medical and everyday expenses that have become overwhelming over the last 7 years as their family has been devastated by Pediatric Cancer.
For those not familiar with Alex's story, Alex was diagnosed with Stage IV Wilms’ Tumor on October 10th, 2009, he was 5 years old.
Alex initally went through 6 months of chemotherapy treatment, 15 days of radiation, multiple surgeries, and countless visits to the clinic and emergency room.
In April of 2010, they learned that Alex was considered to be in remission, however, in February 2012, all of that changed yet again as they learned Alex had relapsed just shy of his 2 year remission milestone. During the surgery to remove the newly grown tumor along Alex’s IVC and aorta, Alex had unexpected blood loss; This loss of blood to his lower extremities would ultimately leave Alex partially paralyzed from the waist down. After this he spent 3 months in the hospital going between chemotherapy and rehab and ultimately left Alex in a wheelchair.
For this reason the Green family had to have one parent stay at home to care for Alex and therefore has only been living on one income. Since 2012 Alex has been going through constant treatment whether it be through clinical trials, surgeries or other procedures.
In early March 2016 the doctors told Jenni and Derek that all existing treatment options had been exhausted and that they were referring Alex to Hospice care.
Alex is now 12 years old and if you've ever been lucky enough to meet him you know what an inspiration he is. Nothing , not even Cancer or paralysis, has stopped him from doing what he wanted to do. He's funny and caring and adores his brother and baby sister. He's an amazing athlete, playing wheelchair basketball and sled hockey up until a few weeks ago. But most of all, Alex has a strong Faith in God and has made peace with what it would be like to go to Heaven.
