SOS Children's Villages: Peru
UPDATE: The class of 2019 is sponsoring a summer of music for these children. Raising $2,625 will provide music lessons to 100 kids for an entire summer. These children do not have access to music lessons regularly, and the last time the organization provided music lessons, the children loved it! Please help us reach our goal.
Purpose:
Aldeas Infantiles SOS Peru is part of a larger, global organization, translated to mean "SOS Children's Villages." The goal of the organization is to help families so that no child grows up alone. In Peru, there are 12 villages that support families who cannot care for their children. The children's villages take the children in, feed them, clothe them, ensure they have access to medical care, as well as provide informal education through volunteers. Concurrently, the parents of these children are receiving training in various areas: raising a child in poverty, protecting a child from sex-trafficking, providing for your family, and more. Challenges:
Donations are requested because the Peruvian villages do not have much access to global funding. As the Peruvian economy as a whole improves, Peru receives less and less from the global funds. Meanwhile, even though the economy as a whole is improving, poverty in Peru remains a major problem. There's a wall that physically divides the rich and the poor (click here for a short video of the wall: Peru's Wall of Shame ). The wealthy people in Peru choose to spend a monthly fee to keep the wall up, rather than spend the money to help their neighbors. The impoverished Peruvians don't have running water or access to medical care. Aldeas would like to become self-funded by 2025 when they estimate their access to global funds will be non-existent. The challenge with trying to be funded locally is that Peru is not a very giving culture. This is where we can help!
Timing:
The Kennesaw State University (KSU) Executive MBA Class of 2019 is going to Peru on September 20th to begin our international residency. Our goal is to provide Aldeas Infantiles SOS a monetary donation when we are there for our visit, so they can allocate funds as needed across their 12 villages, and can use some of the donations to kick-start a new fundraising strategy as they journey towards self-sustainment. We are working directly with the organization and will be visiting them in person to give them the donation.

As a mother myself, I cannot imagine not being able to provide for my child, or worrying about what will happen when he gets sick and not having access to medical care. I'm passionate about supporting this organization in any way possible. Children should not grow up alone or without proper care and love. If you're moved by this organization's objectives and want to help, but can't financially, please spread the word and share this! We need all donations by September 17th to make sure we are able to bring them with us on the trip.
