Hiking the AT to Fight Addiction

$2,694 of $4,380 goal

Raised by 49 people in 4 months
On April 2, 2018 I will be taking off to start my journey on the Appalachian Trail! I will attempt to hike the 2,190 miles from Georgia to Maine in about six months.

My mission while doing this is to raise awareness and donations for substance abuse and addiction. As many of you know, I quit drinking in March 2014 and in my recovery I've found a lust for life and adventure. Without a doubt, my sobriety is what has inspired me to go on this journey. Whether I make it all the way or not, I'm so thankful for this lifestyle that has given me the opportunity to try. Now it's time for me to give back and help others in their recovery!

My goal is to raise a dollar for each of the 2,190 miles I will be hiking, and 100% of your donations will go directly to THE LINK HOUSE to help people in our own community with their recoveries. Link House, Inc. is a non-profit organization, founded in 1972, that provides residential programs and tools for long-term recovery in Salisbury, Newburyport, Amesbury, and Gloucester for men and women who struggle with drug and alcohol addictions.

Thank you for donating and/or sharing my mission. Together, we can change lives and make a difference.☮️

Happy Thanksgiving! Today I'm thankful for all of you who are helping me help others! In one month, we raised over $2,190– a dollar for every mile that I will hike on the Appalachian Trail next year! Do you think we can make two dollars per mile? I've extended the goal, so let's see if we can! 100% of your donations will benefit the Link House to help those struggling with substance abuse and addiction!

This has been such a wonderful experience so far. In addition to preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime trip, I've connected with some amazing people along the way. I'd like to thank Gary Gastman, director at the Link House, for embracing me and my mission. We've shared my story on a radio show, at the Rotary Club, and I was even welcomed to the Maris Center (women's program through the Link House) to talk directly to the women that I will be helping. My hope is that in addition to raising money, that sharing my story will help to inspire others to change their lives too.

Preparations are coming along for my big hike, which will begin in about 4 months! I've done tons of research, bought and tested out my gear, booked my flight, and set up a video-blog! The next few months will be spent figuring out actual logistics as far as where I'll stay each night, resupply packages, etc. I also begin physical therapy on my knee next week, so fingers crossed! Regardless of how it all turns out, I'm grateful for this sober, healthy, adventurous lifestyle that's allowing me to go for it!

I know that most of us have been affected by addiction in some way– let's help others in our community overcome and recover! When we all come together, we can make a difference and change lives.
