Creating New Solutions for Teens in Recovery: "A SOBER HIGH SCHOOL"
Getting sober is only the beginning for teens. Figuring out how to integrate this new lifestyle into family, friendships, work and school is where many young people stumble back into addiction.
Addiction is a scary word because we often associate it with someone with no goals or motivation. The truth is, this drug epidemic does not discriminate and anyone can fall victim to it, even our own kids. These kids play sports, are on the honor roll, participate in performing arts, and have family dinners. These are good kids who unfortunately didn't understand what they were getting themselves into.
Now: Imagine!
If you had just completed an alcohol/ drug treatment program and part of your aftercare was to go sit in your favorite bar 5 days a week from 8:30 to 2:30 for a couple years and NOT take a drink:
Could you do it?
That's what we are asking our kids to do, to go sit in their old school 5 days a week 6 hours a day and not be tempted to go back to the same people, places, and things that led to them spiraling out of control.
Serna Academy, A SOBER High School, is a place for students who have gone through an alcohol/ drug treatment program and are looking for a way to finish high school without the temptations that they were confronted with before.
