ALS STRIKES Jim Estelle
Over the years, Jim has faced many challenges in life. For the most part he has conquered many. In bowling, he has had several 300 perfect games, in his running career he has won many meets in both high school and college. At work, he has safely driven customers many miles; one example is traveling from the Jersey Shore to West Virginia roundtrip. Even now, with his illness he continues to help a 94 year old woman with some of her daily chores. With that being said Jim is now facing his biggest challenge yet, this challenge in all reality may be too much to overcome …….HIS BATTLE WITH ALS!This illness is commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. ALS is a progressive neuro degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
My name is Theresa Good fellow and I have gotten to know Jim from his good friend and my brother Tom Partenfelder. I came to know Jim as the guy that my brother went to the races with and before you know it he literally became part of the family. He has shared holidays with our family, gone on vacations, spent many summer nights at all kinds of races and he has even driven my son on his first limousine ride! I think we can all agree Jim is just one of those guys that you can’t help but befriend and enjoy his company.
Jim worked at Clayton Limousine Company for nine years until he went on disability last February 2014 due to his illness. He has shared with me on many occasions how much he misses his job but most importantly, he misses his regular customers, his coworkers and his ability to earn a living. In November, Jim gave up some of his independence and moved from his apartment into his mother’s home. As Jim’s muscle control continues to diminish they have made some significant changes to the house to make it more accessible for him. They have spent close to $13,000 in upgrades to the house:
$6, 200 for stair lift so Jim can access the top floor
$5,000 so he can safely access the bathroom
$1,200 for rugs
On top of all that Jim’s mother was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center in late February with serious breathing issues. She is currently recovering in ICU at the hospital and still has a long road ahead of her.
I know I am not alone when I have asked Jim what I can do to help. Well, here we go……
We can all help Jim by making a monetary donation to this GOFUNDME. This will assist Jim and his mom financially. We are asking for a total of $20,000. We are thinking ahead because there may be a time when Jim may need some outside nursing assistance. Any extra financial assistance will be saved for any and all impending needs. Please share this page; I know Jim has a million friends near and far! Although we all have faith and hope that Jim will conquer ALS, please join me in supporting Jim by donating to ALS STRIKES Jim Estelle!–Thank you!
